Walking Down the Aisle-Poll

I just saw this thread (actually, it's only a question as no one has commented as of this writing) on Ceremony Ideas and it got me to thinking....

http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/wedding-boards_ceremony-ideas_walking-down-aisle-yourself

How many of you will walk or walked by yourself?

ETA:  I am debating on whether or not my Dad should walk me again...  Also, it may come down to logistics - there may not be room in the gazebo we are getting married in...

I walked down with my dad, but I'd originally planned on walking down the aisle by myself. My dad and I care about each other but we don't always have the closest relationship, so I asked him jokingly about a month before the wedding if he'd wanted to walk me down the aisle, but he didn't have to or anything, and he laughed and said he didn't care. Then about 2 weeks before the wedding I was talking logistics of the wedding with him and said all he had to do was a father daughter dance, he didn't have to walk me down the aisle or anything. He got kind of a hurt sound to his voice and said "Well, i'll walk you down the aisle... I thought I was going to." So he ended up walking me down after all. lol

Thanks!  With my new job I don't get to Knot as much as I'd like...

I voted by myself, because I think that's what it will end up being.  It's just kind of small area.  I do want to say something to him about it in case he's expecting to do it.  Definitely don't want hurt feelings...  I'm glad the wedding is only about 3 1/2 months away - so many last minute details.  Why don't I remember this from the first one??

At my first wedding, in 1986, I had my grandfather walk me down the aisle.  My father had only recently been back in my life at that time.  We were nowhere near close enough for him to have that honor.
By 2007, we had developed a close enough relationship that I decided he did deserve the honor of walking me down the aisle.  But there was no "who gives this woman" crap at the end.

NotFroofy and I walked down the aisle together, holding hands.  Our bouquets were set up so NotFroofy carried hers on her left arm, and I carried mine on my right, leaving each of us with a hand available for the other.

I walked by myself, but I wish I didn't, because I caught myself rushing. People told me later that it was like I was running up the aisle. I wish I would have had someone there to remind me to slow down.

I am having my step dad walk me down the aisle. My father did the first time but he has passed away and I am very close to my step father. He has been more of a father to me better than my own was and almost as long so I'm very lucky. I asked my 2 teenage boys if they wanted to or have their "Papa" walk with me and they said Papa should have that honor. I have considered having my mother walk with me also since she has always been the one and only constant thing for my whole life. What do you girls think??

We didn't have an aisle, because it was just the two of us on a beach.  So, we found a spot between a couple of palm trees,  Set up our cakes & ale,  lit the incense, the candle, paid tribute to the four quarters, and proceeded on!!!!

My dad waked me down the 1st time around, and my son was in my belly.  So for me, it only feels right to have my dad and my 7 year old walk the walk with me again!  I am not sure yet about the who gives this woman part yet.  I am thinking at 31 I am no longer my dad's "property".  Hahaha.  I am gonna hve to think of an alternitve in wording.

My son (13) asked if he could walk me down the aisle. The kids are asking FH to join our family instead of giving me away

My then 14year old son walked me, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. He kept me from crying though. I started to cry a bit while walking and he said MOM, DONT CRY!!!! I snapped out of it and smiled big at my groom.

My hubby walked to the back of the aisle and waited for me.  Our ceremony was in an atrium open to the floor below with a double staircase with elevators between the stairs.  Confusing, I know but don't have a better way of describing it.  I walked around one side after he was there and then we both walked down the aisle together.  It was great because I had his arm to hold on to as I had two steps to go up on to the stage.  I was afraid I would trip over my dress going up the stairs.

I love all the different takes on this "tradition".  I just looked over our ceremony and discovered I had "who gives this woman..." still in it.  Whether I have my Dad walk me or not - I'm definitely not doing that.  I've been out of my parents' home for the better part of 20 years...  Don't think I need to given away now.  :)
