Bell Event Centre -tents?

I'm getting married May 2012 at the Bell Centre.  They now require you to rent a tent for the outside area during cocktail area.  They refer Advantage Tent company.  Has anyone had to do this yet?  Or has anyone looked at other tent companies for cheaper prices?  I'm soooo overwhelmed!!

Is that part of your contract that you HAVE to rent one? I'm getting married there this October, and while they mentioned renting a tent, they did not say it was a requirement.  If that's the case, then our plans will have to change, because a tent rental for that size was almost $2000!

@hcohen0222 I was told we HAVE to rent a tent in case of rain.  Whether or not you actually use it is dependent on  the weather.

I'm getting married there in Aug 2012 and was strongly encouraged to get a tent, however it was not in the contract that I had to have one. I spoke to a wedding band recently however, who said they did a wedding that had to do the cocktail hour inside while they flipped the room (because of rain) and that it was awful and they made all the guests stand on one side of the room while they worked on the other...and then moved everyone to do the other side. He said it was pretty much a disaster.

I found a couple companies online, I think in dayton ohio, that rent tents for much cheaper (like less than $1000), but I don't know if they set it up or not. I have not contacted them yet. Please let me know how it goes if you use either of these people (or if you find someone else to recommend!)

hmmm this disturbs me as I am also getting married there in this October. The Bell Event has changed Management since I booked in May of 2010) so that might have something to do with it. I know in my contract that is is not mentioned that I have to rent a tent. Good to know so when they contact me for the starting of my planning I will be armed with this information. My fiancee will have a field day with this one.
Hconon when did you book? I am curious if they mentioned this to you at all?

We booked in October 2010 for our October 2011 wedding.  It was mentioned to me that most people rent a tent, but in no way did it sound like a requirement.

Please reply when you hear from them and what they have to say.  The lady said the tents were required because guests are NOT allowed in the building while the room is being switched over.  So if the weather is bad or its cold there would have to be a tent to keep them comfortable.

I went with a friend to bell this weekend and the coordinator said that you just had to have one on reserve in cased it rained. She said if it didn't rain and you don't have to use it that you could put the $$$$ toward something else, such as outdoor heaters, or something else that you might want to use.

@ RCK4485 - How would we put the $$ toward something else? Do they (Bell) rent the tents out themselves? Or does she mean that any place we rent from would allow us to do that last minute?

    Thanks!

I am not liking this one bit. If the guests aren't allowed inside how the hell and I supposed to get my pictures done? They are going to ge an ear full from me for sure when the contact me. This is unacceptable. I am already meeting a astronomical number to have this place on a Saturday night. My contract states nothing of this sort. Oh they are going to have a fight on their hands. If they want to rent the tent then great but I am not renting something that may not be used. Waste of my money.

@kriskaori If you put a deposit down for the tent (around $350) and do not need the tent you have a credit with the Advantage tent company for a year to use for something else.  They offer tents, outside heaters, bouncy houses, etc.   The Bell Centre should do this on site and have it included in the price.
