Gourmet BBQ

If you went to an event with a gourmet BBQ, and there were caterer made cocktail food, cheese and crackers etc at the start, then 5 choices of "meat" (lamb, chicken, a seafood choice, as well as 2 vegetarian choices, something like mushrooms and holoumi cheese) and 4 substantial salad choices, and extras (bread rolls, condiments) would you expect there to be enough so you could try each of the "meat" choices?

I am considering an at home wedding, to bring the date of the wedding forward, and trying to work out costings. I know most people would only try one or 2 meat options, so I guess more of the most popular, but I don't even know what would be most popular?

With the menu you described, probably not. What has your caterer said? We are serving prime rib and grilled salmon at our wedding, and the caterer is preparing enough so that each guest could have at least one serving of the beef and the salmon--important to me, because I know some will want both, or perhaps seconds of one choice or another.

I'd want to try everything. I think that most guests would too (unless they don't like one particular choice).

Can your caterer just make smaller portions of each entree?  Has the caterer made this food before and can s/he help you from past experience?

FWIW, I'd want to try both the vegetarian options.

ETA: I would guess among meat eaters that the chicken would be most popular.

I too would want to try everything, but not everyone would. Like others have said, people could have seconds of things and/or try multiple things. I guess I would assume that people will more than likely have at least 2 of the options regardless of what's more popular, always better to have extra than not enough.

I would also want to try a little bit of everything :) Like other said, talk with your caterer about quantities they think would work best.

    I'd probably try 2 options.
