Dinner Stations

Hi All,

We've decided to go with dinner stations at our reception. The last seated dinner we went to took over 90minutes and frankly we want to get to the party. Outside of the traditional carving station, pasta, station ect I'm at a loss. I do like the idea of a mashed potato bar (served in martini glasses) with various toppings. Does anyone have any "outside the box" ideas that are upscale and classy and get away from the buffet feel?

Thanks for your help and suggestions!
Katie

what about a risotto station rather than a pasta station?

PS! love the mashed potato bar idea! I've had friends who have seen this at weddings and couldn't stop talking about how fun it was

Would it be possible to have a shrimp/seafood station?  I like the idea of a risotto station too, as well as a pasta station.  Make sure you have a good vegetarian option for your guests.  Although I love meat, there are times when I just dont feel like eating it and opt for a meatless meal.

I agree with all the ladies.

I also like the idea of shrimp and grits (also served in a martini glass). A salad station would be a welcome surprise where your guests can pick and choose their own "fixings."

I had a potato martini bar and it was my favorite thing at my wedding.

At my boss' wedding they had a sushi station for the cocktail hour and it was great.

Is a mashed potato bar (or something similar) typically done during cocktail hour vs. dinner?

    - A seafood station
    - Sushi Station (you can spice it up by having a sushi chef preparing)
    - International Station (pick a couple of dishes form various countries)
    - Italian Station
    - Pasta Station
    - Carving Station

*watch out with the Risotto station. Risotto can't sit out fror long, it looks horrible, sticks together - just unappetizing. If you have somewhere there stirring pretty consistently then maybe it would be ok.

Fajita or nacho station?  At my future brother-in-law's wedding, FI's parents hosted a little party for the gap between the ceremony and reception.  They included snacky-type stations and the nacho station was a huge hit!  Went over wonderfully with the guests!  Or a slider station?

I love the idea of a salad station!!!!! I always feel like I ate too much heavy food at a wedding. This would balance it out.

No, it was part of dinner.  We had a carving station, the martini potato bar, a cheese/veggie station, and smoked salmon and brie.

I agree with the fajita station, nacho station, and slider station.
I have heard really great things from people who have been to a reception with fajita station. They said that it is fun and very interacting.
I'm looking at having these at my reception. The slider station doens't fit in with the others, but we will have guests who will not eat the Mexican food.

All of these stations sound amazing...... Mmmm!!!!

I would love the Salad Bar idea. You could also add prepared cold salads to that, like pasta salads, antipasto, etc.

doesn't a martini usually go in a martini glass and the potatoes on your plate?  and seriously, who the hell eats grits????  disgusting!
  • edited December 2011
A lot of people eat grits.  Not everyone has your taste preferences, and it's a little rude to react like that.

I also like grits, but I am not sure how they would work at a wedding. This may be more a desert station but what about a shaved ice station or for a more dinner idea a taco bar, a make your own stir fly, or pancake/french toast with different syrups and fruit toppings.
