Casablanca

I found a few dresses I like, but for each of them, I'd like to change a couple of things on the dress.  I was told that Casablanca allows you to do that, but just wondering if anyone has tried it and how it came out?  For instance, I love the top of the 1996 model, but I wanted a more plain bottom (maybe A-line in satin material).  Has anyone ordered a dress and basically mixed and matched a top with a different bottom?  I'm scared to do it because I am already late in ordering my dress and have to have it rushed!!

Thanks,
Cheryl

Re: Casablanca

  • You would have to talk to the bridal salon about that. If you have already ordered it, you would have to check to see if changes can still be made. Otherwise, you may have to hire a seamstress to make the changes you want.
  • I ordered a Casablanca gown, 1955.  I had a few changes made to it with adding more buttons down the back and shortening the train.  The bridal shop I ordered through was really great at working with me on what changes could & couldn't be made.  I also talked with the alterations department at the bridal store and found that they could make most of the adjustments in the store with me once the dress arrived so I could better visualize the changes. I highly recommend talking to your seamstress before ordering as well as the store you order from about any changes you want done.

Also, one of the big things that I learned while dress shopping was that if the dress you buy requires a lot of alterations, aka a different top or bottom than what it comes with, it may not be the dress for you.  Hope this helps!

  • I don't know how drastic the changes are you're thinking about doing, but I added a lace-up back to mine (originally zippered) and it came out beautifully! The change was about $100...not terrible.

Here are the changes I was thinking because I am torn between 2 dresses

I loooooove the top of Casablanca 1906 www.casablancabridal.com/collections/view/2/38">http://www.casablancabridal.com/collections/view/2/38 but the train is just a little too much for me, so I was thinking of asking them to change the style only of the bottom (not the beading) to something like Casablanca 1958 http://www.casablancabridal.com/collections/view/26/308  I've already tried the 1958 style on and liked the way the bottom fit.

    What do you think??
  • I did the same thing, but it was for the top.  The dress in was an older model, and the newer model had a different cut for the top.  When they ordered the dress, it was ordered as dress (i forgot the numbers) 1900 with 1915 top.  I am assuming it would be able to be done with the bottom too?
