QOTD 10.18

Do you vote? Why / Why not? If you do vote, how do you usually vote?

Re: QOTD 10.18

  • Yes, I vote. Mainly because we are the voice of the country now, and what we vote will affect our future. I usually vote with who I believe will be best for "OUR" future. I believe both sides have good points, but there is usually one that stands out to me most.

  • Of course I vote. I think there is no excuse not to vote.

I am registered as an Independent, and I usually vote for a third party candidate or sometimes Democrat. I've never voted Republican.

I've also never, ever voted for the official who actually wins. Not even in a local election. :/

  • I don't vote.

I never received my voter registration card when I was 18 and didn't bother manually registering.  I feel like I don't know enough about each candidate (in Canada) to vote nor do I have the time to learn properly.

I come from a  family of non-voters so it;s hard to get interested in politics.  the only time i was genuinely interested was when a former classmate of mine (he was 18 at the time) was running for local office.  He actually almost won!
  • I always vote!  I'm extremely liberal, so I usually vote Democrat.

  • i vote, i usually vote for the person who I think will be able to take care of the issues better than the other people for that office. This year I am not sure who I will vote for because I don't like either candidates plan. I will probably end up voting for someone who has no chance at winning.

  • I always vote, and it really pisses me off when people don't vote and then complain that they're unhappy with how the current government is. No vote = no opinion.

  • I always vote. I'm very liberal and usually agree with Democrat party candidates. However, I live in New York where, for the most part, a Democratic candidate is already a shoe-in for getting the vote, so when I can, I vote Working Family Party.

  • Always vote. I'm not registered for a party, and I vote for the person I think best. I've voted for Republicans, Democrats, Green-Party, etc. That said, in a presidential election, I've always voted the Democratic candidate. This year, I'm writing in a candidate.

my environmental law prof said something similar.  he said "people are the government, so why get upset when you don't like the way things are run? you all voted for that person anyway!"
  • I voted in 2008 (for Obama).  I had EVERY intention of voting this year (and I still might be able to) but it became a huge mess because I live in PA but have an Ohio driver's license even though I'm registered here in PA, blah blah blah.  I might just show up to the polls on election day and see what happens, lol.

I am super liberal so I vote democrat.

</div><div>You most definitely will be able to vote in PA!  The whole "show ID in PA" scare tactic is not true.  The court ruled that in PA you DON'T have to show ID to vote, it's voluntary.  Don't let voter suppression tactics prevent you from fulfilling your civic duty!</div>

  • I usually always vote, however given my home city is Chicago, it didn't seem to matter if I voted in 2008 (what an exciting night!). :)

This year, we'll be on our honeymoon for the election, and I've yet to obtain my absentee ballot. I need to get on that today, or I probably won't get the ballot in time!
  • I always vote and vote democrat.

<div>THIS! I totally agree with you. I always vote, yet I am not a political person. In fact, I hate politics, but I believe that you need to vote to stand up for what you believe in.</div>

  • I always vote in every election. I have the same problem as a PP in that my registration and license are from two different states because of when I moved, so we'll see if it works out or not. I am very liberal and usually vote Democrat, but I don't vote strictly on party lines - I've voted for just about every party in the past. I even gladly voted Republican one year for mayor, and she ended up being one of the best mayors my city had ever had.
