Invitation wording - plated meal options

Silly question.

For meal selection on RSVPs, does it matter if I state the meat or should I also include the description? Example: Honey Mustard Pork Loin rather than Pork Loin.

Things stopping me from including it:
1. Spacing
2. We haven't decided which chicken meal we want.
3. The vegetarian option is chef's choice, so we won't know what it is.

I didn't think it was necesary to include but a couple of my 'proof readers' have asked about it.

Just hoping for some peace of mind before I print them.
Thanks!

  • I think you just write "Pork" "Chicken" "Fish" "Vegetarian" and then "Other special dietary needs - please specify"  (for gluten allergy people)
  • Our choices were: chicken, prime rib, or whitefish. I specified the type of beef and fish just bc the tastes can very so much (ex) salmon vs whitefish can be very different), but just said chicken and didn't specify seasonings or sauce or anything.

  • We wrote:

    Salmon and short rib
    Vegetarian

At the time of our invitations, we hadn't selected a specific veggie option, so we kept it generic. We also listed the meat so people would know in case they don't eat fish or beef.

Personally, I think it's helpful to list the actual meat/veg option if you can. I do not think you need to go into detail as far as how it's cooked or the sauce that comes with it. Sure, if you have room, go for it, but at minimum putting the meat type is good.

I've seen this a lot.  Only once have I seen specifics in the invite to let me pick but 99% of the time when I've gone to a wedding with plated meals it was just listed very generally.  But, the fish was always listed as it can vary so much.  So, it would say, for example: beef tenderloin, chicken, salmon, vegetarian, other.

  • I don't think I would put specifics, just keep it simple like some of the other girls have: pork, chicken, and vegetarian. Usually it's on the menu/program at the reception. Plus if you put the specific meal, you limit your options to change your mind. We changed our menu quite a bit just before the wedding so either our invitations would have been incorrect or we wouldn't have been able to do that.
