Planning Help

I am recently engaged (about a month) and have been looking and trying to decide on a venue and other things.  My big problem, besides the fact I am unbelievably indecisive, is that I haven't been to a wedding since I was a small child.  That said I hardly remember them, and I feel there are so many aspects of planning a wedding that I am unaware of.  I really don't want to have to pay for a wedding coordinator, so I'm looking for any suggestions I can get.  I mean I know the obvious things, I more concerned with things such as lighting and when exactly music is played during the reception?  Is there music being played while we eat?  Things you don't necessarily think about or even pay attention to during a wedding, but are there and you would notice if they weren't.

FYI- I am planning to have an outdoor wedding and reception at a park or golf course, with a tent for the reception.

    Hi and welcome!

These boards should be able to help you a lot. I would first decide on a budget and number of people you want to invite. then i would look for a venue and ceremony location.. As far as lighting, I would wait until you decide where you are having it before you need to worry about lighting... You may not need/want it.

And as far as music during dinner, usually there is music being played.. at least at the weddings I have been to and I have been to a ton. Your DJ or band can help you with that... hope this helps!

I suggest getting a planning binder.  I bought one and it is amazing.  It has so much information and tons of checklists for budget, planning timeline, etc.  I am pretty clueless about a lot of these things too and it has been a lot of help. Just keep in mind that a lot of the items on the budget and some of their suggestions are not necessary to the wedding if you are on a budget.  So don't get overwhelmed by that if you do buy one.  And there are always the ladies on here, this has been huge help to me.

This is the one i have but there are others that are cheaper:

I also would suggest the wedding binder. Also, like previously stated, the DJ will help you decide. As far as ceremony goes, if you have it in a church the pianist or organist or whomever you have should be able to help you too. If you need anything you can send me a personal message and I can give you some more tips or whatnot.

Hi my name is Kerri Mootz. I am a wedding planner in Cincinnati area. I know you may not think hiring a planner is worth it however, we can save you time, hassle, and money because of our contacts. Also if you hire a DJ they will be able to tell you when and when not to play music. It however, is common to play music of some sort through out the whole wedding.  Please if you have any more question don't hesitate to ask.

    Sincerely,

    Kerri Mootz
