Flower Budget

My wedding is going to be in the Philly suburbs next year.  We've already planned a lot and the next thing on our list is to book a florist.  We're trying to come up with a budget so we can find florists in our price range to set up consultations.  The only problem is that we live in DC and have no idea how much flowers cost in the Philly area.  I know flowers really range in price depening on what you want, and honestly we're not set on any particular flowers.  We'll most likely go with something in season in green, pink, and white for our flowers.  Could you give me an idea on what a good budget is for all of the flowers listed below?  Thanks in advance!

-1 bridal bouquet
-1 tossing bouquet
-1 bouquet for the maid of honor
-4 bridesmaid bouquets
-8 boutonnieres
-4 corsages
-2 pommanders for flower girls
-2 arrangements for the church
-18 centerpieces

Re: Flower Budget

  • I'm meeting with some florists this weekend but I already got quotes from one.  Bridal bouquet starts at $150 and bridesmaids/maid of honor start at $85.  Boutonneires and corsages were about $15 each.  Can't remember what flower girls cost was and I'm not doing a tossing bouquet.  Centerpieces can vary widely.  My quote for tall ones was about $100+, low ones would be $35-$50 or so.  Not sure about church arrangements.

  • I think the most common answer on here will be that your budget can vary greatly from like $500-50,000.  But as a middle of the road estimate, I'd say around $2600?

    -1 bridal bouquet - $200
-1 tossing bouquet - $20   (some florists will throw in for free/you could throw a BM bouquet)
-1 bouquet for the maid of honor - $75
    -4 bridesmaid bouquets - $200
    -8 boutonnieres - $90
    -4 corsages - $80
-2 pommanders for flower girls - $30 (totally guessing, I didn't do these)
    -2 arrangements for the church - $150-250
    -18 centerpieces - $1800  (figuring 9 shorts around $75 and 9 talls around $125)

That all totals $2645.  You could easily go way under or way over that, depending what you're comfortable with.  But based on ranges I saw when I got my quotes, I think that's a pretty middle of the road idea.

  • I would get an estimate in DC first. Philly and DC are not that much different in standard of living costs. If anything Philly may be a little cheaper so worst case senerio you could save a little money up here.

  • Flower prices really do vary.  My florist works out of her house so she doesn't have the overhead of a store  Her prices are really reasonable and says her full weddings average between $1800 - $2500 (some more some less), if that helps.  I'm getting more than you want  including cocktail tables, more boutonnnieres and corsages  and a placecard arrangeminen and I'm under $2600. My bouquet is less, centerpieces are less,  and I'm doing all bridesmaids bouquets - which are about the same. Leslie is really creative and has a lot of ideas that save money. I love working with her.  www.whimsicalwelcomes.com Check out her website and blog for her latest pictures.
  • Thank you all so much!  This definitely helps.  The first florist I had contacted that was recommended by my venue said it would range $5,000-$10,000, which I thought was way high.  I will definitely keep looking.  Thank you!
  • What's your vendor / who was that florist?  It really all depends upon what types of flowers you want, etc.  I got some quotes in the upper part of that range, too, even after going into the florist meeting saying my budget was much lower.  A lot of it will ride on what you want for centerpieces.  My lows wount up being much closer to $100 and my highs closer to $150, so that killed my "budget", but I loved them.
