Hair / Make-Up Poll!

I'm looking into booking my hair and make-up trials this week, and am trying to decide if I'd rather go with a salon, or hire a stylist (or set of stylists) to come to my hotel for this. What are you doing?

Re: Hair / Make-Up Poll!

• I am having a hair-stylist come to my hotel room. I don't want to be running around and I am not very familiar with hair-stylists near me so I don't want to wait around in salons. I cut my own hair normally and I wanted to go about this in the least fussy way possible. The hardest part was finding a hair-stylist to come who didn't have a 5 person minimum since I am not having a BP. The one that I chose had a 3 person minimum so it will be me, my mom, FMIL, and 2 friends.

I had my hair trial in October but I emailed with her a few weeks ago and she said that since it was a while ago, we can do another one around May or June to refresh anything.

As far as make-up, I am DIY-ing it.
• I'm having hair and makeup travel to my mom's house to avoid rushing around. It's super expensive but I felt it was worth the extra expense.

I just booked my trials, too :)

• Our team of hairstylists and makeup artists is coming to a large suite that I have reserved at our hotel/venue. I just figure, the day is going to be tight enough schedule wise as it is, that it would just be a lot easier for everyone to just have the stylists come to us. I don't think this is as big of an issue for girls who have really late afternoon or early evening weddings, but our ceremony is at 2, so we need to be totally ready by about 12:30 so we can do some before photographs.
• For hair I am having someone come to the hotel to do all of us. She works for a salon but is doing my wedding on the side because the salon charges a ton and she doesn't see that much of it. She is also the girlfriend of someone I work with. I won't have my trial for a while though. She said she will do that the day of my final fitting so I can see how the whole look works together.

Make-up I'm not sure about yet. My hair person has a friend (who I actually sort of know) who does make-up so I may use her. But I don't know her prices yet so I'm not sure. Or a woman I work with does Mary Kay and wants to come and do eveyone, which won't cost much (really just like the cost of a lipstick or something). The problem is I don't really like her and don't particularly want to deal with her on my wedding day. So even though she's cheeper I'm still not sure.

The salon I normally go to is traveling (one hair stylist, one make up artist) to our hotel room for hair and makeup. It is much easier this way because our venue is in a different town than the hotel. Plus, I like having someone there who I know and have been going to for awhile.

• I am having my hair done by my best friend/hairdresser so she is coming to the house to do that. But I found another stylist that is also coming to the house to do BM hair and she works with a make-up artist who is doing the same.
• I hired a MUA/hair stylist to come to our bed and breakfast suite to do our hair and makeup. It is definitely more pricey, but I think the convenience and not having to worry about driving somewhere, wind, rain, etc etc are well worth it! I'm really looking forward to my trial at their salon in June!
• I am personally going to a salon. It isn't very far from my house (about 10 min). My hair dresser offered to come to my house, but I think it will be too much. My trials are at the end of June and I am pretty excited about it. I don't get my veil in until the 2nd week of April so that is why I had to hold off.

• I am a hair stylist and makeup artist, so I am on the fence about just doing it myself. But I have about 4 friends that are all stylists also that are coming over to hang out / help.

I really was on the fence about going to a salon (not my own, b/c I hate the idea of making my friends work their butts off and then have to rush home and get ready themselves) but I know that if I do it, it would kill me to not have my hands in my maids hair...
• I'm having the MUA and hair stylist come to the hotel. I'm planning on paying for at least the hair for my BMs, so it will be nice to all get ready together. Plus, we are only having one photographer, and FI is also getting ready in the hotel, so he will be able to get shots of both of us getting ready.

Ditto, exactly.

We have 3 MUAs and 3 hairstylists coming to a large suite I reserved to do hair and makeup for all 12 (TWELVE!!!) of us. We need to be ready by 130 for our 3pm ceremony.

And if I can be an AW for a second, here's the suite: http://www.fourseasons.com/philadelphia/accommodations/suites/logan_suite/ I am SOOO excited about this. I have a feeling we'll get some awesome pictures with the Logan Fountain outside. I am staying there the night before the wedding with my mom, and then we paid extra for 5pm checkout so that we can all relax and get ready there together.

I'm going to a salon, along with any of my bridal party/moms that want to come! They are very accomodating to bridal parties...we already reserved the date, and I know they set up snacks and stuff, and bring in as many stylists as needed depending on the number of people. The salon is very close to my parents house/our venue and I've been going to the same lady since middle school (she did my prom hair too! lol), so it's pretty important to me to have her do it. As for make up, she usually will do it for me, but they don't actually do make up at the salon, so I'm not sure about that yet.

• Conveniently, my usual salon is right across from our ceremony venue. So I'll get my hair done there, and the makeup lady will meet us at the church after. Shes a friend too; so Im not paying for travel or anything really.
I dont know what my bridesmaids are planning on doing yet. My salon is pretty expensive, so they can pay if they want, otherwise they can get it done somewhere else and meet me at the church.

• Hiring someone to come to my location.

Our ceremony is at 10:30am - it's too hard to swing by a salon that early..since most don't open until 8:00 or even 9:00.

• I'm have my hairstylist/makeup artist come to my hotel. I had my hair makeup on march 20th. I love my hair and the make was a little heavy. I'm having another consultation on april 2nd.
• I have reserved the date with my MUA and she will be coming to me. I had my first trail last weekend and I loved it. She is going to do another trial in either May or June. I'm hoping to do a hair trial the same day so I can get an idea of the whole look.

I haven't booked hairstylists yet and I'm a little worried about this. My normal hairstylist isn't really good at updo's and fancy hairstyles. I"m not sure how I"m doing my hair yet but I would just feel more comfortable having someone else do it. I met with one lady but she didn't really seem like a good fit to me.

I'm thinking I may do something with my hair half up and half down. My MOH thinks she may be able to do what I'm looking for. I would rather have a professional do it but I just haven't had the heart to tell her this yet. In the end I hope to find a stylist who is willing to come to me.

• After being in a wedding this past weekend, DEFINITELY have your hair/makeup people come to you. The day already is so busy and hectic, even just running down the street is 1 more thing you don't want to do on your big day. Getting ready should be as less stressful as possible on you. You may pay a little more for them to come to you, but so worth it in my opinion.
We are having 2 people for hair for my wedding and 1 for makeup for 5 bridesmaids, 2 moms and me.

As you are a hair stylist I'm curious to hear what you consider is best, traveling or working in your own space/ salon. I'm a worrier and I'm constantly thinking about what-ifs and worst case scenarios stuff. I know stylists travel with almost all their equipment but for some crazy reason I'm imagining what if something unexpected happens and suddenly the hairstylist really needs something that is only at her salon to solve the situation. Then my hair is not what it could have been because she came to my house with her traveling bag that isn't as extensively equipped as her salon. Am I making any sense? So when you do events like this, what do you prefer to do?
• @Nati - I am worried about the same thing! Plus, I'm thinking at a salon we could more easily have multiple girls going at once, so it seems faster.

I'm not concerned about the "running around" stuff a lot of PPs mentioned on here, b/c there are 3 really well-reviewed salons within 2 blocks of my hotel. We wouldn't even need to get in a car to go, so no traffic or anything to worry about. Sometimes I love the conveniences of big cities!
