Preggo BM!

Eeek! I knew it was going to happen, just not to who I thought.
My aunt, a BM, is 3 months preggo, due in October. I'm so unsure on what to do about dresses now. I can't shop with her now,ifI do shop with the others I run the risk of the dress I choose no longer being in "season" or discontinued. If I wait, I run the risk of choosing a style that takes too long to order because I know I wouldn't want to go dress shopping right after having a baby.

I nelp help!

Re: Preggo BM!

  • When were you thinking of picking out the dress?

Reason I ask is even if you were to go in November with everyone including your aunt, that'd still leave plenty of time to order them and do any necessary alterations.

I was hoping to go within the next few weeks. What makes me nervous with that doing that is if she looses a significant amount of weight, couldn't the dress loose it's shape, or potentially cost a lot more, with alterations?

  • It depends on the style of dress and how much weight she could potentially lose. I've never been pregnant, so I have no idea how that could play out lol. I'd stay away from styles that are more structured or have a lot of ruching, altering garments like that is a nightmare plus you could potentially lose those details if the dress has to be altered down.

Or worst case scenario, she could just wear a different dress but in the same color. Surely your family would know she just had a baby :-)

  • One of my brides maids was about 6mths pregnant when we went dress shopping. She is having the baby in a few weeks. I wanted to have the dresses selected and ordered and the ones I picked were easy for her try on. Being that your aunt is only 3mths she can still try on dresses and you can gauge how its goign to look and what size she should order. The store should be able to help wth this also.

  • I agree with hisbabygirl.  You should go now and try on.  At least she won't be pregnant for the wedding and you don't have to find a maternity dress!  My FSIL wants to be pregnant during my wedding so we shall see : /

She's only 3 months, but looks a lot farther along. She's been gaining weight steadily since Christmas. I can't mention her pregnancy yet since she hasn't officially announced it (her mom told me) and I know the way she is when pregnany, she wants to do nothing and feels horrible. It just won't work.

  • Well then I'd take her shopping with you when you do go and have her help make the decision about which dress she likes based on how the other girls look in it and how she thinks she might look in it, then wait to order until after she has the baby

  • My sister is 6 months pregnant and she is still "kinda" tiny but they just put a bigger dress on her and then after the baby is born and she looses her baby fat she can get it altered.
