i am contemplating purchasing a pair of Uggs (ive never owned any before). i'm looking at the Classic Short ones: http://www.uggaustralia.com/ProductDetails.aspx?gID=w&productID=5825&model=Classic Short

a few questions.

1. they say this style runs big and that if you are in between sizes, you should order down rather than up. if you have these, do you find that to be true? im an 8.5 and usually order 9's.

2. tehy say they should be worn barefoot to maximize warmth - do you really wear them barefoot? if i were to wear socks, would that mean that they dont run big and i should order up? i just cant imagine wearing them barefoot - i dont even wear my slippers barefoot.

3. are worth the money?

I sleep with sock year round, I just don't understand how socks are perfect, but anything else is OMG hot and anything less is freezing.

I have suede boots like UGGS, but not, they're JCrew, they were on sale a couple years ago, and they were a gift. I would never pay full price for boots like that because they're not really fashion boots and they're not really heavy-duty outdoor boots. However, I love them because they're the warmth and comfort of UGGS and I've never seen anyone wear them but me.

If you are going to wear suede boots in the snow, get some sort of waterproofing spray unless you want greyish salt/dirt stains.

Just remember UGGs don't have any support. And no, I wouldn't wear boots without socks, that's asking for them to be nasty.

I own 2 pairs of the "classic short". I wear a 7.5 or 8 in most shoes, my Uggs are size 7, and they fit great.

I wear them both with and without socks (Sometimes I get weird and just need to wear socks), and I've never had a problem with them becoming too snug or my feet feeling too hot. I always wear "thin" socks, though, not thick gym socks or anything like tha. HTH!

ETA: I do love my Uggs, very much. My feet are always cold, but my Uggs keep them delightfully toasty in the winter.

First of all, loooove my Uggs. I have two pairs. I don't wear my Uggs in heavy precipitation (ie heaving snow or rain). If it's drizzling or there is a light dusting of snow, I will wear them. Otherwise I wear non-suede boots. Definitely get the spray. I think it was only $7.50 for a bottle. It's worth it for the price you are paying for the boots.

If your main consideration is to keep your feet warm, but to be able to wear them in all weather, there are so many other options out there for you.

I am pro jean tucking honestly. keeps your jeans from getting super wet with the really hot salt stains on them!

I would NOT order the short ones! You get a ton of snow in your area so you really need the taller ones. It's only about $20 difference

I ordered a half size down and they are perfect.

Your feet will sweat and stink if you wear socks with them. They are made to be worn without socks. and no, they don't get sweaty inside. The wool is to take care of that

See I had the classic short and wore them in Buffalo and was fine. They have a mini that is like ankle-height, and that I definitely wouldn't recommend for snow. But I have had no problems with the classic short.

I see "We clean UGGS" sign in the window of half the dry cleaners here. I have't had to have mine cleaned yet, mostly because I am unable to walk

Well, I can walk with a crutch and that doesn't do well on snow and ice.

Perhaps I will find out next year after I am repaired.

I LOVE my Uggs. They have a few stains but they're not too bad. Last year I wore them for an entire day of walking around NYC in the cold rain that turned to sleet. It was a bus trip with coworkers and they were all soaked when they got back on the bus but my feet were still dry.

Uggs were originally created my Australian water-polo players to keep their feet warm. The swimming world has used them for decades. I personally have had at least one pair since I was 6 (I'm 26). I still have a pair of black Uggs that we bought when I was 14. I can recall one time where they were wet inside, but that was during a VERY wet swim meet. Like puddles and 40 degrees, that's so cold your calves will ache if you walk barefoot, and all our meets were outdoors.

I wear mine with socks, but I have very clammy feet. And no, my boots don't smell bad.

I don't remember what size they are, but I've had them for 12 years, they've survived at least 7 moves and they have good tread and don't have any holes. They were worth the money, but I also bought them before they were popular.

and I've never worn them with a mini skirt. For the record.

Agreed. I have a pair of short ones and a pair of tall ones. I tuck my jeans into the tall ones. I find that I can't wear the tall ones under my jeans without them affecting how my jeans lay. So I only wear the short ones under my jeans. I never tuck my jeans into the short ones because I find that looks weird on me.

I'm late to the game but just wanted to add my two cents... FIL's own a dry cleaning business here in NY, land of the snow. Take your UGGS (if you buy them) in for weather proofing. Have the professionals do it (its really inexpensive) as opposed to spraying yourself, they will do a thorough job, just make sure sure the shop specializes in UGGS! Also, here they also specialize in cleaning UGGS, so you can take them after the fact to get rid of salt stains, dirt, muck, etc.!

Some of the styles have replaceable sheepskin liners if you're worried about that.

If you want something that's really waterproof, with good traction for snow, LL Bean has great boots.

I don't think I'd use them as snow boots -- I am ordering my snow boots from LL Bean this year. However these shoes are insanely comfortable -- they may not be the cutest shoes in the world but they keep your feet warm & comfy in the winter.

i would go try them on in a store before you buy. they do run very small. i typically wear a 7 and i wear a 6 in uggs. they are the most comfortable shoes i own, and i'm buying more. i don't care how ugly they are. they're comfortable and warm!
