Getting in Shape

15 days to go...help!!!

I have 15 days until my wedding and I want to look my best. I tried on my dress today and it fits, although I would ideally like to lose a little bit around my chest/rib cage so I don't have backfat (I know it's impossible to spot reduce but it's worth a shot!). Also I am trying my hardest to tone my arms at least a bit...any ideas ladies? I have cut out all drinks except water...and upped my intake to at least 100 ounces a day to try to cleanse my body. Should I cut out carbs for the next two weeks and eat protein and veggies only? Thanks for the advice!

<div>In 15 days, you can feasibly lose 2-3 more pounds by maintaining healthy habits, which, if you're close to your goal weight could make a difference in how the dress fits (and how you feel you look in it!).  For toning, honestly, free weights are probably your best option, although I don't know how much a difference you'll see in any area in 2 weeks.  Don't bother trying to "cleanse your system" by drinking excess water - your body is tuned to cleanse itself, and additional water isn't shown to make a difference (this is also one of the chief reasons that juice/fluid diets are a crock of shite).  Drink until you are hydrated, and then stop; overhydration can be as damaging as dehydration, particularly if you are trying to work out (you deplete your body of electrolytes necessary for muscle contractions).  Also, if you are over-hydrating and eating salt,<em> you will actually retain more of that water and bloat</em>!!  If you cut anything from your diet, limit your salt intake to prevent water retention and bloating.  While I would never advocate cutting all carbs, my personal impression is that I bloat when I eat too many refined carbs (white bread, simple sugars, etc.) - if you've ever noticed particular foods that make you bloat, I would cut them out before just slashing something that may have no influence on you.  </div><div>
</div><div>It sounds like you've already put a lot of effort into looking fantastic, with good result.  Keep up the healthy habbits and you'll look amazing in 15 days.  Good luck!!!</div>
  • With only 15 days thats not really much time to be able to make a change and definitly dont crash diet becuase that wont do you any good.

To make yourself feel better about how you look why not look into getting a body wrap? It wont be any long term change but will help shed some water weight and could help make you feel better on your wedding day.

  • The best thing to do 15 days out is to reduce bloat (which will help make you look slimmer and more toned).  Cut out alcohol, carbonated beverages, processed foods, increase your fiber (but watch for gassy foods), increase your water intake, watch your sodium (but don't cut it down too much, you need some).  You don't need to cut out grains (and for the love of baby jesus, there are carbs in vegetables), but some people have success with cutting down on them a bit, especially the white, processed ones.

I wish there was a "Like" option on The Knot. This this this. Sweet baby Jesus, this :)
  • Cut out all alcohol, and carbonated beverages. Reduce sodium intake (like everyone else says). Unless you're lifting HEAVY (which means you can't do more than 8-10 reps while maintaining proper form) or exercising longer than an hour and a half intensely, you don't need to worry much about electrolytes.
I love that someone reminded people that veggies have carbs. YEAH they do. If you're considerng cutting out carbs in the form of grains, you may want to be prepared for a serious mood issue, if you've never done it before. Replace your grains with sweet potato or yams (baked, steamed, mashed, whatever, just don't add-in butter or fats to it) and estimate approximately 1/2 to 3/4 cup as a serving.
If you want to see changes in your body, lift heavy, focus on the upper body, and eat right. You will see mild changes, and even if they're mild, you'll feel much better about your efforts and know there was nothing you could have done "better".

  • I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks by cutting carbs. I can't see how it can hurt! Plus it will make you less bloated and it gives me a lot more energy!

  • So, all you ate was chicken, or what? Also, if op loses 15 pounds, her dress isn't going to fit.

True. But adding fat to veg is a great way to add calories without recognizing it, and then overdoing it on your intake for the day. I'm also an advocate of black coffee, and unsweetened tea for those with fat loss goals.

ETA: Yes, it is also possible to lose 15 pounds in 15 days. If a morbidly obese person who eats all the wrong things at 260lbs and 5'6" goes from sedentary habits to exercising with weights and cardio 5x a week, and switches to a strict 1600-1800 calorie diet, drinks no alcohol, eats no processed sugars or carbs, and drinks lots of water, there's a very strong chance they'll lose up 7-10 pounds of water weight in the first week alone.

Again, not idicating it's sustainable or likely, but it is POSSIBLE. My fiance (see above situation!) did just that, and will have lost 10 percent of his body mass by our wedding, if he keeps it up.
  • @souptin I'm sorry, I don't really know why I would lie about that?
@eyestotheocean that is right, that initial drop is mostly water weight, but I was thinking maybe it could help OP slim down a bit/feel more confident for the wedding. I think celebrities often go carb-free a couple of weeks before big events like the Oscars.
  • If you want to do a body cleanse- try the apple fast. 24-48 hours of 100% apple juice, water, apples, applesauce...as long as its all natural. You'd be surprised how much clearer the whites of your eyes will be and it rids your body of toxins. I wouldn't do it any longer than that, and some of these other ladies have some great suggestions in terms of a diet for the rest of the days. I consulted a homeopathic doctor about body detoxes and he told me about the apples. It's worked for me. I did it for 48 hours then just switched up my diet afterwards. Felt great!
