If you want something very traditional, Alexandria Pastry Shoppe makes wonderful tasting cakes.

If you want something more artistic, we are using Cakes By Design.

We are using Cakes by Linda - taste great and she can do very intricate details!

We're getting this cake for $7.50/per slice, and got discounts for a coupon she had on her Web site and for being military (my dad).

Where are you located? Where will your wedding be held?

I used Karen Rodkey Cakes in Littlestown, Pa. www.karenrodkeycakes.com. Her cakes are delicious! Prices start at $3.25 per slice. We used her because she is half an hour from our reception venue.

The hotel where we had our reception provided the "traditional" wedding cake, but we also wanted a groom's cake.  We looked at Fluffly Thoughts (VA), Just Cakes (MD), Kendall's Cakes (VA), Fancy Cakes by Leslie (MD) and Sugarbakers (MD).  We weren't that impressed with the taste of Sugarbakers;  the others were quite good.  We ended up going with Fancy Cakes by Leslie, because she showed us a cake she had done which was similar one we wanted (to look like our dog) plus the price was reasonnable.  In the end, the cake (chocolate all the way) tasted better than the samples, and our guests preferred it to the traditional one

Did want to go traditonal either.  We decided to go with Kirsten's Cakery in Glen Burnie.  We gave her artistic control and she provided us with three different designs.  Super helpful and the cakes taste great.  www.kirstenscakery.com Good luck and happy planning.  oooh and she charges $3.00 pr. slice.

We went with Michael Markwitz of Artistic Desserts, and he charged us $4 per slice, $3 for each slice over 100...I am pretty amazed at how low some of the prices are on this post! But we are quite pleased with his work, and can't wait for the cakes!

We went with Charm City Cakes since they were the only one that would even attempt our wedding cake (then we had to do a groom's cake since we loved their flavors to much.)  We checked all of our area and a number of places in DC and VA and no one would even attempt to make that one part of our relatively simple cake edible.  I will admit that we spent almost twice as much on the cakes as we did on my dress, but it was well worth it.
