Rockland Girls- Need Church!

Hi Ladies,

My fiance and I are originally from Orange County but are getting married near Orangetown in Rockland.  However, I HATE the ceremony space at our venue and since its a January wedding, we must have it inside.  We are looking to have the ceremony in a church, and essentially any denomination will do (neither of us are overly religious)- my only requirement is that the church be pretty on the inside.  Anyone know of any in the area that they could recommend?  Help!

There's some really pretty churches in Nyack....I think it's off of Third Street.  I don't go to church, never been there but It's awesome from the outside.

Honestly, it's offensive to me that you aren't religious but want a pretty church backdrop for your wedding. Churches are religious and sacred places, not a photo-op.

Kristenaanddan, As someone who has a bachelors, and is pursuing a masters, degree in religious studies and knows more about the history of many different religious groups than I am sure you would care to hear, I am dumbfounded by your response. When I identified my fiancé as "not overly religious," perhaps a better choice of words would have been that we do not subscribe to one particular set of religious beliefs. However, we most definitely are spiritual people, which is why our reception chapel that resembles a funeral parlor won't do. We would like somewhere that celebrates life and love, not drag the mood down- hence, our search for a church. And our requirement that the church be beautiful inside is not for the vanity of a "photo-op," as you suggest, but because we are paying for the wedding ourselves and do not have the budget to have any flowers and/or other decorations to put in the church. Therefore, we are looking for a space where our guests would not notice that church decorations are missing. I didn't really think a post requesting church recommendations required a detailing of our life story, but I am insulted by your insinuations and condescending tone. I would hope that the next time you decide to judge someone, you allow them more than 75 words to show who they truly are.

I've re-read your OP - it still sounds like you're looking for a pretty backdrop. While that may not be the case, this is the internet and what happens when you post a question to strangers.

That said, with all your degrees, I'm sure you know that many denominations will not marry you because you do not subscribe to their beliefs. There is a Unitarian Universalist church in Rockland that may be willing to work with you, but their church probably might not be pretty enough for you.

There is a very pretty Episcopal Church in Nyack called Grace Episcopal. Episcopalians welcome everyone. I am Catholic and my fiancee is Non-denominational, and is divorced. We are getting married at an Episcopalian Church in Poughkeepsie....we are not from the area ...they welcomed us and the experience has been wonderful.

Hope this helps a little....good luck!
