Addressing One Envelope Invitations

I am beginning to address my one envelope invitations myself but I am having trouble answering a few questions. Do I spell out every abbreviated word? As in Minnesota instead of MN, or Southeast instead of SE? I know those seem to be basic questions but I can't find anything to answer this question when I look.

Also, is it too informal to write The Smith Family instead of:
Matt and Sarah Smith
Maya Smith (for their 2 year old daughter)

I also have a few cousins in college who are currently living in their dorm rooms. I have their addresses so I should send one to them with "and Guest" on the envelope, correct?
What if I send one to their parents and remaining siblings at home as "The Smith Family"? Will that confuse the family or should I just assume they are smart enough to figure it out?

What about adult children living with their parents? Separate invite for that person so they can invite a guest?

Lots of questions but I'm hoping someone can help with a simpler answer!

Re: Addressing One Envelope Invitations

  • Agree with PP, except for abbreviations.  I think on wedding invitations, you should spell out Minnesota, Avenue, etc.  Don't spell out the house numbers, though.
