Holiday decorations

I took a nap after work today and woke up to a pleasant surprise. DH climbed up on the roof and hung icicle lights, put lights on the bushes, and put red and green spotlights in the yard. He's not usually one for decorating, but I guess now that we have our own house, he wants to show it off a little. So in an attempt to wake the board up, lets talk decorations:

Re: Holiday decorations

  • I'm sad because we just got our first house, and it has perfect upppy downy eaves for lights, but both DH and I are a wee bit too scared to climb up there to put them up :) So so far all we have is stocking hangers and battery operated candles in the windows. I'm working on the wreath and christmas tree! I love decorating but this is the first year we have to do all the work ourselves (before was a teensy apartment, before that college, so not much decorating). It can be a lot of work apparently.

  • I love the battery candles in the windows, but we dont have sills in most of our windows :(  Our first few Christmases living together were in a tiny apartment, it was much easier to decorate than our townhouse last year or our house this year.

  • Aww that sounds awesome!  I love the holidays and all that decorating stuff.  Unfortunately my fi can't stand the holidays, total polar opposites on that front.  I say bah humbug to that, I already had half the house decorated by yesterday afternoon
  • I am jealous of all of your lights :) Apparently now they make battery candles that automatically stay on for 8 hours from when you first turn it on, then turn off for 16 hours, then on for 8, etc. I'm amazed by this. So convenient! When I was growing up we always just had electric ones that we had to plug in every night.

  • I started decorating today. This is our first year in our house, so I'm crazy excited about decorating!

It is true that pit bulls grab and hold on. But what they most
often grab and refuse to let go of is your heart

  • We got a timer/sensor for our outside lights. It turns the lights on when it gets dark and turns them off 8 hours after they turn on so they are not on all night! Oh the things they come up with. I'm used to the battery light that have the twist bulb to turn them on. I might buy some for around the house, they are only a couple bucks a pack. On a non-holiday candle note, I LOVE flameless candles. I got a battery candle that is in wax and flickers. It looks just like a real candle, even has two brightness settings! Perfect for the candle lover with two cats and a dog ;)

  • ooh! your husband must be totally awesome!
  • Either that was a really long nap or he is really fast.  Either way I'm impressed.  :)

  • I got our the holiday dish towels today and yesterday we got some of those pinecones that smell like cinnamon.  I love those things.  We're getting our tree next weekend.

I can't wait until we have a house and I can go crazy with the decorating.  Growing up, my mom made our house look like a total winter wonderland, tree in every room basically.  I don't want to go that over the top but I would like the space to do more than just a tree and some pinecones.
  • We only put up a tiny tabletop tree.  We're waiting for the clearance sales on the pre-lit trees right before/after Christmas to buy one.

I did go out and get some garland, candles, and stocking holders for the mantle, though.  It looks really nice.

  • We were holding off since we thought we'd be in a house by Christmas but since that isn't happening we're going to decorate the apartment tomorrow. Our apt is going to be all kinds of lights and garlands and happiness.
  • It was a two hour nap and he works pretty fast. We ran out of lights, hes going to do over the garage tomorrow- that makes me nervous!

  • I don't decorate my apartment much, since I go down to my parents' house for Christmas.  But I did pull out my nativity set!

I think we will be waiting until next year to purchase the giant tree and oversized gaudy decorations to hang from the top of our high ceiling. </p>
