Anyone know of a good band?!

Hey all,

We are looking to hire a band (not a DJ) for our downtown Columbus wedding. We want a jazzy sort of band, who can also do a Micheal Jackson song or two. :) Anyone know of ANY band? We're having tons of trouble finding anything!

Try Red Line from Cleveland, they will travel and are really, really good.

I am not sure about Michael Jackson, but Mojoflo is a good, jazzy band that you should look into.  They play a fair amount of shows around here so you could see them in action if you wanted to.  I am not sure how much they cost though.  http://www.myspace.com/mojoflomusic

This may not really be what you're looking for, but I'll suggest it anyway just in case!

I'm using Michael Sutherland. He does impersonations of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, etc. Like I said, that might be a little older style than you're thinking of but who knows? He also DJs. I was freaked out at the concept of an impersonator, but I have a few CDs of his and he sounds amazing. I will post the site below, and if you click Demos > Sinatra and Friends you can hear him.

For my wedding, he will just be singing/entertaining with recorded music behind him rather than a band for $1200 (a discount from the normal $1500) and then DJing the second half of my wedding. He will split the DJ/band thing any way you want, same price regardless. He does have a band, but I think it's quite a bit of money (obviously you can email him about that if you want) so I didn't go that route.

    The website: http://www.michaelsutherland.biz/

    HTH!

PS - I think I worded that kind of funny. You don't have to have him DJ at all, or you can have him do it for an hour at the end of the night, it really doesn't matter. If you book him for the day, you pay one flat rate and he does whatever you ask of him.

smariex18!!! I am soooo pumped about your suggestion! I was actually just contemplating today if I should go with a DJ because it seems like every band wasn't what we were looking for, was booked for our date, or was too expensive. This guy is EXACTLY what we're looking for!! I e-mailed him-- so hopefully the date is open and we can book him ASAP.

    THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!

Ooooh, I feel good knowing I helped someone! Hurray!! Glad I suggested it 'just in case' haha! Tell him Shawna S. (June 17th wedding) referred you pretty please :)

I about freaked out when I found him. I wanted something classy to go with our theme, but I wanted a DJ too. I'm young, and so are most of my friends, and I didn't want to make them listen to music they didn't know well (I'm a little more eclectic than the majority of my friends, music wise) for the entire wedding. Soooo he's going to sing my first dance and all that, and maybe a little after dinner, then DJ. Aw snap :) Also, they're very accommodating. Good luck!!

Oh, also, they do shows downtown in restaurants and such sometimes.. and if you ask they'll tell you about events and you can go "preview" him!

Note: when I say 'they', I mean him and his wife Cynthia. She's a bit loopy but she's a sweetheart, lol.

Yea! Sounds like you're in the exact situation as me! As soon as I looked at his website, I e-mailed him and am still waiting for a reply. According to his calendar, our date isn't booked, but I'm getting a little worried that I haven't heard from him yet. Do you have his number so I could give him a call (the one on his website doesn't work)?  Or does he usually take a little while to reply? Thank you thank you thank you again!!!

Ummmm, I called that number just now to make sure it works and it doesn't. So I'm pretty much freaking out now. I'm going to email them... I will let you know how that goes, tell me if you hear anything.

Sometimes they're a little difficult to get a hold of (one of the cons).

    Cynthia Sutherland:

I've really only talked to Cynthia, she'll tell you how everything works, she 'manages' him and what not. And I'm not sure if that calendar includes weddings... See if June 17th  (mine!) is blocked off =p

EDIT: I called the # to make sure it works and it does not. I just read about a girl on here who's venue went bankrupt and kept their deposit. I'm kinda freaking out now. I emailed Cynthia, let me know if you have any luck hearing from them and I'll do the same, okay?

I tried to send Cynthia an e-mail today and it got bounced back from the address you sent me. I'm going to double check if the spelling is right, but let me know if you get a hold of her! I hope something bad didn't happen!!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, my wedding is marked on his calendar - so if there's nothing on your date, he's probably free :) Cynthia's email did the same to me.

I found his facebook and just added him today:

Bam! I'm hoping that works. I wonder wtf happened...?

If you hear anything.. my email is smariex18@gmail.com !

Thanks for the suggestion of Michael Sutherland.  FI and I have been talking about having Sinatra music during our reception dinner FOREVER, this sounds like the perfect solution to have something live and a DJ both without going over budget.  According to his calendar he will be at Woodlands on Monday for Valentine's Day.  FI and I were thinking about going to stalk him and check him out :)
