Unprofessional E-mail Response

Today I received an unprofessionial response from a DJ so I wanted to share it with you (without mentioning names).

This weekend we secured our DJ (after meeting with 3 different ones).  We had one DJ on "hold" that was part of one of the bigger companies.  I e-mailed that DJ to tell him nicely that we thanked him for his time, but we did decide to go with someone else.  In his response he said he was looking forward to to it and typically his bosses like to know who the customer goes with and the deciding factor.  I kindly responded.  I said that we met with DJ Melee to see why everyone recommends him and we were impressed with him and that the ultimate deciding factor was the price because we were saving A LOT of money that could be used somewhere else.  (I'm sorry but saving $1000 is HUGE!)  His response was along the lines of: I know he's a club DJ at casinos but if you are confident that he can run a wedding and are saving That much money then I guess you Win.  (Yes, that and win were capitalized). 

I thought this e-mail was rude and unprofessional.  He could have left it alone and said if you change your mind please reconsider us or best of luck.  Anyway, I'm done ranting now.

    I received a really similar email from one of the bigger companies- asking why we went with someone else. I didn't like the email at all. I don't think I ever replied to it.  I figured, we gave him notice that we were going with someone else, thanked him, and that's it. Once we signed a contract with someone else, I really wasn't interested in emailing back and forth with someone else.  You were really nice in your email and he should have left it at that. It's so unnecessary for him to say that.

    I received a similar e-mail from a photographer when I booked my photographer!  I e-mailed him thanking him for speaking with me to let him know that we ultimately made our decision.  And then he e-mailed me back to ask me who I ended up going with and I told him in another e-mail and then he e-mails me back to show me information about them, which "demonstrated" they were homosexual photographers.

    How rude - needless to say I ended my correspondence with this particular photographer there.  If you have to be catty to try to get business then I don't want to work with you, and like I would base my decision on whether or not my photographer was gay or not - who cares if their work is fabulous what their sexual orientation is (I don't care at all, not even under those circumstances)?

    Ugh, typical sales response.  I used to get pressure to figure out what prospective clients ultimately decided on when they didn't use our services (I was selling professional business services, not wedding-related at all).  I was also supposed to figure out pricing, and try to tell them bad things about the competition to convince them to use us.  Usually I just asked once kindly to see if they could let me know how we could win their business in the future, and they either responded or didn't.  If they said it was price, I offered to see if I could meet or beat the competition's price if they showed it to me.  Otherwise, I thanked them for considering us and left them alone.

    It would definitely turn me off in a hurry to see an email like that from a potential vendor!!!

    And as far as the photographers being gay thing Karebear said, I would have seriously flipped out on them.  That's ridiculous!!!  On one hand, it's extremely narrow minded and bigoted to even care about someone else's sexual orientation when considering their professional capabilities.  On the other hand, I don't care if they photograph feces or bug guts on the side - all I'd care about is how professional they are in dealing with their clients and the kinds of wedding photos they take!!!

    I would just be even more happy to have booked with DJ Melee in the long run! That is totally unprofessional! I would be so annoyed

    This disgusts me. My close friend is gay and she contacted one of the big traveling makeup teams and the owner made it clear in so many words that she wasn't interested in working with gays. Unbelievable, do we not live in 2011?? Sorry, Carebear, not cool at all.

    From a business perspective understanding your competition is important. I understand asking who? and why?  But to then downgrade the choice is stinking unprofessional. To discuss anything about their personal lives is disgusting!  Wow! I feel awful for those of you who have gone through that.

    I'm in the same boat! DJ Melee quoted me a price that is half of what the other DJs are quoting me! After reading this, I'll be setting up a meeting with Melee too :) CareBear, if I were you, I would just write back "I'm sorry, is this YOUR wedding or mine?" ;)

    That is exactly why we went with DJ Melee.  We weren't even to check him out but we decided to just for the heck of it and were pleasantly surprised.  He really wants to go above and beyond and make each wedding unique.  Often times, you can't expect that from a bigger name company (as I learned).  This guy didn't even TRY to negotiate with me.

    However, I did not even respond to that last e-mail because it's not worth my time.  He burned his bridges with me.  And unfortunately for him, I am a teacher and there are about 5 of us that are planning weddings currently and many others that know people planning weddings so I've let them know of my experience.

    These stories make me sick. How horrible!

    I only take solace in the fact that the joke is on them that CT legalized gay marriage (thank God) and they are missing out on a huge market and will suffer for it.... especially considering  NYC is not too far away for a lot of vendors. Muahaha. Assholes.

    I contacted DJ Meelee.. just waiting on his repsonse. How much does his rates go for? Alot of these dj's are expensive.. some want 1200 to 2500. WOW!!!

    He quoted us at $120/hr.  After meeting with him he gave us $110/hr quote if we booked by a certain date (which wasn't a problem because we knew we wanted him as soon as we walked out of the door).  The other 2 DJ's we met with quoted us at about $1700
