How soon is too soon?

Hello :)

As most of you can see our date is almost two years away.... and I am just wondering if it is too soon to start looking & booking things like: accommodations & photographer?

Not that I want to rush, but I want the planning process to be stressless... and can't help but worry about the dates being booked a year from now?

Backround on our current plans:

Date: April 23, 2014
Location: Maxwell, Barbados
# of people attending: undecided - that's a whole other post!
Colours: champagne silk satin, with lace overlay for the dress. FI will wear white linin shirt, and oatmeal linen pants... and flowers I have found coral calla lillies :)

I am open to help, advice and thoughts...
Thanks!
S.

  • I would def. start looking around now. I know in our place (Vegas) the in demand photogs and HMUA's booked up over a year in advance.

  • I think it depends on where you're looking.  Some places won't even book you till a year out.  I honestly think its too soon.  You never know what will change or happen in the time between now and then that your taste may change.  Start looking just over the year mark.

I think it depends on the venders. If some are really popular they book up early. If your set on the date and the resort it may not hurt so you def have that date blocked.

  • Thank you for your thoughts ladies!!

The photgrapher that we are looking at and have been speaking with is the most well known one on the island, and comes with very good reviews/testimonials. We don't want to miss out on having her for our big day.

We have actually decided not to stay at a resort in Barbados, the prices are actually quite expensive. We have managed to find a villa, that will accommodate everyone (14 ppl) at an fabulous rate. Averaging about $140 per person for a week, and it's gorgeous!

Wow great price! That's awesome. Do you want to get married at the Villa?

  • We booked most stuff a little under 2 years. If we hadn't, we woulnd't have been able to get some of what we wanted.

That is what we thought too!! The villa is about a 5 min walk from several small and amazing beaches. Our potential photgrapher has already offered to send us some photos she has of a few of them.

We were thinking  of doing a beach ceremony, then have a small celebration with our bridal party and SO's at the villa. Champagne, dinner and dessert.

We plan on having a big family/close friends AHR in Victoria a couple months later and doing all the traditional stuff: cake cutting, speeches, first dance etc.

<div>That is so great to know Kimmy, thank you! I am seriously considering booking the Villa. It's the only one down there for that great of a price, along with being beautiful and accommodating everyone.   I am so tempted!</div>

Sounds like you have a great vision already. I'd say do it so someone doesn't book your dates but check the cancellation policy just in case.

We are hoping it's a beautiful and relaxing day :)
Sent an email to the photographer requesting that exact info, and will do so with the villa. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • We are doing something similar in CR. We booked about a year in advance. We found two properties side by side consisting of 10 villas (we are booking 9). It took a ton of research and time but I am so glad we are doing this. It is so cheap for our guests and so private and intimate =)

  • Erin  - that sounds perfect!!! We love the cost factor of renting villas, and the idea of having a house to celebrate in after is even better! You are getting really close, I hope your day is everything you hoped it would be. Let me know how it goes :)
