My purple pout :C

My absolute favourite colour in the world is purple.  Violet vibrant purple.  Not plum purple, not magenta, but somewhere in between.  Like  jewel-tone purple.  The trouble is, nothing is made in this colour!  I can't find table linens, ribbons, chair sashes, table runners.... nothing.  I'd settle for a close purple, but still... there is nothing.  Places will offer like 8 different shades of blue, and MAYBE one shade of purple.  So how do I add purple to my wedding?  It's supposed to be a main colour, and its ending up as an accent colour almost.

I DID find bridesmaid dresses in the exact purple I want.  And I saw them in person and just about melted onto the floor I loved the colour so much!

And I have found some flowers that will match.  Apart from the flowers and the bridesmaid dresses... there is no purple in my wedding.  I'm bummed and pouty.  What can I do?  Any suggestions?

Re: My purple pout :C

  • I think you will have to just DIY the holy moses out of your wedding. Thats what I plan to do. Finding the same right shade of tiffany blue has been awful. I would never pick this color again for anything. On my blog a week ago or so I posted a awesome violet ring and a few other things from etsy. That vibrant jewel toned violet is one of my fav colors too :) HTHs a little I will try digging something more up :)

Love the ring... but want minimal wedding day jewelry.

I hate the idea of making my own table runners.  Especially because we are forced to use drop cloths we've never seen before (either champagne or white), and things might end up clashing after all my hard work.  I just don't know what to do to put more purple into the decor.

Maybe make my own chair bows or something.

    Maybe pay for more flowers.

Maybe force my grandma to dye her hair purple.

  • ooh I love that table cloth :) Are you having a sweet heart table? That would be perfect! But I still think grandma is really the best choice.

    Heres what I found

I dont know if you can get violet where you will be married and that time but I thought this was cute and vinatge-y so I had to include it

What about these awesome ??? ooh I forgot what they are called cookies for every place setting.

Or making some sort of violet charger for the tables? Dont know what though

Or adding a few of these beauties from the great mind of martha but in violet tissue

Or making chair sashes like the ones below in a few different violet vintage style fabrics. Do you know what material the table linens are?

Or you can do some sort of origami playig tribute to the wonderful memories you have made in japan??? I am sure you can find violet origami paper there for cheap. You could do their tradition of 1000 cranes of good luck on wedding days or somethin like that? Or cootie catchers as the menu, programs or at everyplace setting with fu facts about you two just like grade school.

The only other thing I can think of is vases you can find violet vases like this or you can spray paint them (ruffledblog has a DIY recently of spray painting vases)

or you can track down some purple mason jars which are even more rare than the aqua ones and I ended up paying more than I personally wanted to fo my 20 aqua ball jars

ooh last but not least I loved this bouquet and had to show someone :)

HTHs wont be offended if you dont like any of the ideas. You are right purple is hard but I tried :)

  • I'm not sure I have good suggestions for you, but I just wanted you to know that I feel your pain!! Purple is impossible to find/match for some reason.  I had to give in a little and use varying shades of purple for my wedding. You're lucky to have found such gorgeous bridemaids dresses in your shade.  I had to settle on a different purple than I originally wanted for the dresses.  The flowers we picked out range from bluish to pink-purples, so I think it will work.

That's great that you were also able to find flowers to match.  I noticed you also have pink flowers of the same type in your bio -- are you planning to use both?  Maybe you can bring the pink color into some of the other decor.  The pink is more subtle, and if you add some DIY touches in the purple tone, I think it will really stand out.

  • I love the purple lighting idea. Chair sashes/bows would be much easier than table cloths and very pretty.

I paint everything that I'm not happy with, but I don't know that you would have much to paint--purple!

  • I don't know why you're having so much trouble. I'm a purple girl, too-totally obbsessed with it. And jewel tone is my absolute fave. Love your BM dress, by the way. My mom wanted me to hire a decorator and offerred to pay for it, so I don't know where she found all that purple, but I can ask her. I love the purple lighting idea. I think doing a variety of shades of purple will help a lot. I'm doing a combo of vibrant, jewel tone purple and dark, plum-my purple. We also have a splash of lime green, too. (My fiance is just as obsessed with green as I am with purple.)

  • I was having the same issues...I found my one dream flower, had it special ordered from a florist just so I could get the color, took the flower into a fabric store just so I could get a swatch of the right color...as close as I could get.  Then came to dresses...I found my dress at DB and none of their colors came close.  I didn't know what I was going to do, and went to Mens Warehouse to see what they had.  They have colors corrisponding to DB, so I was kinda stuck with one of those colors...So I went with Lapis...which is darker than I wanted, and not as red.  But it will look nice, even with my flowers.  Now I don't care, if I can find purple, I am using it.  Thanks to hippie4yahweh for finding that gingham ribbon though!  (I love that name by the way) I think I might need that to dress up my chairs!  I have a picnic theme, and have been looking for nice gingham table cloths or oilcloth that I can afford, and it is not existant in affordable fashon.  Thanks for the ideas!
I LOVE your BM dresses...Good luck with the right color!
  • what about some of these on your table or in vases?  maybe have a light in them to make the glow in a vase with water and a flower?

  • Purple is one of my main colors as well...but a little darker purple.  I find sometimes it's easy to find...and other times, not so much.   But I can definitely see why it's hard to find for you, yours is a little brighter.

But I've got a ton of purple stuff in my bio...your welcome to check it out.  I was going to suggest just DIY the H out of everything, LOL.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions, guys.  I was thinking of DIYing the hell out of everything, as well, but I really want to avoid that since fabric prices are through the roof here in japan (and I won't have time when I get back to Canada).

Kimberly--I emailed that annachaircovers place.  Maybe that could work out.

I was thinking of just buying varrying shades of purple ribbon and making table runners from those.

We'll see.  Anyway, I really appreciate all your great suggestions.  i'm going to keep coming back to this post!
