After three years of dating, my now FI proposed to me Saturday during our anniversary celebration. Here's our story :
After three years of tiptoeing around the idea of marriage (he was married before on a whim and it turned out awful so he then became fairly gun shy) we started talking about it. He wanted to buy a house, I said I want to get married first. He wanted to know what kind of rings I like so a few weeks ago we went looking.
He bought the ring Friday and was so anxious he couldn't wait for our anniversary on 4-12-12 to give it to me! He suddenly decided we should have our anniversary dinner early so we went out for sushi (our favorite) on Saturday. He had this card, which isn't weird because it was our anniversary, but he wouldn't give it to me! Then we got home he kept it on his person until he said OK, you can have it.
I read my card and it was a typical anniversary card, discussing how I changed his life when he met me and he's a better person because he met me. On the left side of the card was a series of post-it notes.
Each post-it just had something funny on it and when I got to the last one it was taped to the card. I lifed it and the card said "congratulations on your engagement." In that time that I was reading the card, he had gotten down on one knee with my ring
He had also secretly gathered as many of our friends as possible in location so we could show up and surprise them with the news and party.
It was perfectly him and perfectly us. Couldn't be happier!
