question about bridal shower/bachelorette party

My cousin is getting married in December and I am her maid of honor. I would have had this planned in advance but I didn't know until last week that they were getting married so soon. She agreed that we could do a small get together. I know that it would be innappropriate to invite guests to a restuarant and not pay for their meals. Should I do a small get together at her church? I figured this way I could cut costs, but we could still go out to her favorite restaurant afterwards.

    You can have it at her church or at your house even. You aren't behind on throwing her one at all- showers and b-parties typically aren't thrown until about 2 months before the wedding anyways. And they can be even closer, so you're fine.

    For the b-party the hostess isn't obligated to pay for everyone, as long as it's agreed on beforehand. i.e. if a group of friends are going to a bar for the b-party, it isn't the MOH's job to pay for drinks for everyone. But it's usually considered proper to not have the bride pay for anything that day.

    I think that holding it at her church would be fine.  You could host at your house, ask her if she would like it to be in her home, potentially her parents's home, you could find a nice spot at a park, etc.  There are so many options.

    You should have some sort of edibles for your guests.  Do what  you can afford, and I am sure your cousin will be so excited and happy.

    Yes, you could have a small, informal shower at your house or her's. As for the bach party, you don't have to go fancy or elaborate. I think some people get way too involved with throwing extravagant b-parties. We just went out bar hopping and drinking for mine with a couple of my BM's and MOH. I didn't pay for anything. They all chipped in.

    My sister is hosting my shower/bach party at my house.  She will be providing food for the shower (jimmy john's sandwhiches, fruit salad, brownies) and then we are going to a bar for the bach, where people will pay for their own booze.  It should be pretty inexpensive and low-key.
