venue trouble (vent)

I'm having soo much trouble finding a venue that is within my price range that can accommodate what I want. Everytime I think I find someplace they come back to me with a crazy site fee! I really want an outdoor ceremony AND reception but I'm beginning to think thats impossible within my limited budget. Im starting to get really bummed thinking that I might have to compromise on what I want in order to find something reasonably priced.

Sorry for the rambling...just getting frustrated with all this.

I had an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour at Amarante's in New Haven. The reception was indoors but the large windows make you feel as though you are outside! It's right on the water and very beautiful! Not sure what your price range is, but we paid about $90 per person for appetizers during cocktail hour, a 4-course seated meal, cake, and a full open bar. This price included use of the venue as well. They also threw in the ceremony for free, which usually costs $600!

    GL with your search!

Most of the places I looked at the ceremony fee was $300-$350, and our highest plate cost was $65, lowest was $44. But my venue is out of the way for most of the state :) Good Luck with your search. The right venue is out there.

hmmmm do you definitely want both your ceremony and reception to be in the same place?  we had an outdoor ceremony in my parents' backyard, and then moved over to our reception, which was in a building with a huge deck off the space we were in...so a lot of our guests chose to stay outside.

maybe you can do the ceremony at a park or on the beach or something, then move to a venue with lots of outdoor space?

My next suggestion would be to have it in someone's backyard. One of my friends is doing this and is saving a ton of money. Just be prepared with tents in case of rain. If you decide to have it at a park, on the beach, or in a back yard you'll have to rent everything.. tables, chairs, linens, china, glassware, tents, a dance floor, etc.. but it can definitely save you money if you research places. She's a knottie too, but she hasn't been on much lately, I can have her come on and give you advice and let you know who her vendors are.

I'm not sure where you live, or what your budget is, but we're managing to keep it pretty lowkey with our venue: the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in Wethersfield. The site fee was the least we found, and we can pick our own caterer, etc, which allows for a lot of flexibility in the pricing...we're planning on doing a clam bake/BBQ. Ceremony will be outside in the gardens, and reception will be in the barn. If you want more info, feel free to email sniksa (at) gmail (dot) com.

I don't have ideas on an outdoor ceremony...but there's a hotel in Stamford that starts at $55 per person. It includes everything but the liquor. The liquor package starts at $76 per person which still isn't bad. No ceremony fee and complimentary use of a space for a rehearsal dinner or next day brunch. Oh you also get one complimentary room for the wedding night. Plus the catering manager is very nice and helpful. I'm from NYC, so this is like a BARGAIN in comparision to what's in my city.

We are also having ours at the Webb barn in Wethersfield.  Katie has been great to work with and giving us a great deal of information.  It has a beautiful garden for a ceremony and an old rustic barn for the reception all on the same site.

Here is a link to their information page:  http://www.webb-deane-stevens.org/weddings_and_event_rentals.html

We love the outdoors and looked at a lot of places (we did not want an indoor/banquet facility - not our style).  We knew it was perfect for us as soon as we toured it and it was the most reasonable as well, which was a bonus.  We are going with a picnic/pig roast with our caterer, which was also recommended by the Webb Barn and they have been great to work with as well.

If you have a tight budget you can can still do it!  We are doing our best to make everything work within our budget and still getting what we love and want.  It can be tough at times, but it is doable!  Best of luck with your search!!!  :)
