Disney - where did you stay?

So we are thinking about disney for our honeymoon. We have been there before, but want to make it special of course. Where did you stay and do you reccommend it? Also what were some nice things you did to celebrate your honeymoon?

TIA

Re: Disney - where did you stay?

  • I think it depends on your budget and how much time you want to spend in the hotel versus in the parks.  If you plan on going gung ho on the parks, I would stay in one of the moderate resorts as the values are more geared toward families.  If I had an unlimited budget I would definitely stay at the Grand Floridian Club Level.  For me, I would probabky do a split-stay and stay at one of the mods (Port Orleans French Quarter or Coronado Springs) for the first part of the trip when I would be spending most of my time in the parks and then the last 2-3 days at one of the deluxe resorts so that I could spend my time at the resort pool and just relax and maybe utilize some of the other amenities.

We really enjoy staying at the moderate resorts. They are a bit nicer then the average hotel and still have the Disney feel without a huge expense. I do like staying at the Disney Boardwalk, it's more $$ but the proximity to Epcot is nice (Epcot is my favorite to visit).

  • Thanks! I love that idea of spliting the time up between the resorts! And I was looking at the boardwalk and id love to go there, good to hear a positive about it
  • when i wetn with my family we stayed at the carribean beach resort

its one of the moderately priced hotels and it was pretty standard

i would LOVE to stay at the grand floridian or port orleans :)

Thevery first Disney resort we stayed at was the Dixie Landings. It is now apart of the Port Orleans. The nice thing about staying there is you can rent a boat and drive it to Downtown Disney/ Pleasure Island if you want to fo that. I would love to stay at one of the nicer resorts but have only ever eaten at them. If you want to be pampered and enjoy the parkslooks like you are then splitting your time between hotels would be the way to go.

I've stayed at Carribean Beach, Port Orleans, All Star Movies and Pop Century. Port Orleans was definitely my favorite. It was much quieter than the other hotels. We always spend so much time in the parks that the hotel is just a place to sleep so it's never been worth it to splurge on a nicer hotel.

  • our fave is the polynesian for many many reasons but we've also stayed at the all star movies which was fine.

  • I've stayed at Port Orleans and Dixie Landings (when it was separate). Both were cute and nice. Most recently however, we stayed at the Villas at Saratoga Springs. They are great! We were on a family trip (7 of us) so I know you wouldn't need all of the space, but the privacy was awesome! I don't know if maybe they have smaller options than the 2 bd ones we stayed in but it was really nice. And you can take the boat to downtown Disney too.

  • Swan and Dolphin.  It's beautiful and you can get a great deal on the room by calling in directly.  Then when you are ready to go to the parks, you go out the back of the hotel, and ride over in a shuttle boat taxi to the back entrance to the parks - so you avoid all the crowds at the front.  Excellent.  Then when you get tired and the heat starts to get to you, you can go back over to the hotel like about 3:00 and take a nap and eat dinner so you don't have to spend horrible park prices, and then go back over to the park to see some stuff lit up at night and see the fireworks.  Beautiful.
  • I second the recommendations for the Polynesian and the Boardwalk.  Different locations and different themes, but both are excellent!

  • Love the Polynesian for the resort decor, location, and perks but the room isn't too special.  No matter what...def stay in a Disney hotel/resort.  There are so many perks likw extended hours and luggage service.

  • We've stayed at French Quarter before and also the All Stars, I got engaged at Disney in March and we stayed at French Quarter then...if we could afford it that's where we'd be staying for our honeymoon in November. However, budget says that won't work so we're going to the All Stars. I think that with as much time as we're going to spend at the parks, it's not really worth it to spend the extra money on the resort. You still get the Disney magic no matter where you stay...the time of year matters too though. Summers and holidays are busy family times so the all stars will be packed with kids...hopefully November won't be too bad and we won't feel surrounded by kids!
