XP: Seating Chart

I'm working on my seating chart and tryign to figure out some details..Is it better to list guests alphabetically or to group them by table? One of my gf's thought it would be easier for guests if it was alphabetically listed with each guests corresponding table number.

*If we use our favor's as escort cards would this make it easier if we decided to group guests on the seating chart?

Hope this isn't confusing. TIA!!

  • I think alphabetically is the best so that people aren't standing at the table too long looking for their name creating crowding or congestion. We are going to have them placed alphabetically (hopefully) if the hall complies.

  • Our venue required them to be alphabetically and honestly, I'd do it that way anyway. It would make things much easier to try to have people find their names.

  • Definitely alphabetical.  It would eliminate congestion and the amount of time it would take people to find their name, as opposed to listing it by table number.
  • Yep we have them grouped at tables by relationships. I'm not a big fan of random seating.

[QUOTE]Well, I suppose it would depend on the size of your reception and how close everyone is. We grouped our together according to relationships. Parents with grandparents and aunts and uncles. Cousins with cousins. Work friends with work friends- and so on. We thought this would make for more comfortable seating and less awkward moments.

I think she was referring to the actual arrangement of displaying the cards, not how to sit people at the tables.  Instead of having the tables' escort cards all together, she'll have:
Mr. and Mrs. Apple, Table 9
Mr. and Mrs. Biscuit, Table 4

I think she was asking how to have them laid out for guests to find.

I am planning on putting mine out alphabetically but I am seating guests with people they know (family, friends, etc)

This. We're seating people with who they know, but the escort cards will be arranged alphabetically on the table in the cocktail hour room for people to find.

  • I'm putting my cards alphabetically. Your guests won't know what table they're at so I think it'd be harder for them if it was grouped by table. Most assume they'll be alphabetical

    this!
  • Definitely go alphabetical.  It will be easier for all the guests to find their seats that way.

  • Just curious is this alphbetically by first name or last name?
  • Thank you ladies! I finished the seating chart and ended up doing it alphabetically with grouping. The center and large portion is alphabetical and around it I grouped individuals by tables.  It turned out better then I thought!!
