Flowers

How much is too much???

I just got a quote from a florist near the Charlotte area and I am wondering if it is too much or about average. She gave me about a $2000 quote for my bride's bouquet, 6 bridesmaids bouquets, 10 boutonnieres, 8 corsages, and church decorations (flowers and greenery in windows, 5 candelabras with flowers and an arrangement for the registry table and cake table). I know that she is using orchids and desert roses and I am not sure what other flowers. Is this overpriced because I was kind of in sticker shock?!?! But I also do not know anything about flowers...any help is greatly appreciated!

It may be more helpful to move this over to your local board, for comparative purposes.

My immediate reaction is, depending upon the extent of the "church decorations" and reception flowers, that bid may be on target.  However, it will probably be good for you to go to at least one or two other florists and get their bids on the same arrangements.

Ask your local boards and shop around.  Like Lisa said though, $2000 would be on target for the midatlantic region (and honestly sounds a little low for where I am.)

Yes, that is about right for the Charlotte area. You can negotiate with her to get the price down. Consider using less expensive stems in the church instead.

Oh, and don't forget ... you can/should take your Church decorations to the reception site.  That is an immediate way to trim the budget!  Good luck!!

Sounds right for my area, but I think the orchids are also more of the expensive blooms.  But definitely go to other florists.  They're basically bidding for your services.  I would go to at least 2, but preferably 3.

Orchids are crazy expensive.  Regardless of what's usual for your area, I feel like you had to know that having orchids (usually around $30 per flower) will really up your price.  I would imagine that if you're freaking out you should consider other flowers to replace the orchid and you'll be much happier with the pricetag.
