Videographer

I know there was a fairly recent post on this..but I can't find it..

I'm looking for videographer suggestions. Who'd you look at/decide on?

I've seen some trailers of videos from girls on here and got excited but they were out of my budget.

Really considering Star Quality Video. Their prices are awesome and you get full day coverage included (BIG plus seeing my ceremony/reception are in two different places.) How's the, um, quality, of Star Quality Video? I'm trying to figure out why their prices are so reasonable when everyone else charges you an arm and a leg!!

Another thing, I see some videographers offer you all the raw footage. Do you think it's worth it? I kinda think it would be nice to see everything and all the bloopers, but on the other hand, would I really sit and watch it all?

TIA!

We went with Star Quality mainly because of price (we originally weren't going to do a videographer). Can't tell you how the quality is because our wedding is in August - but a couple girls on the board recommended them. I'd be interested to hear what they say, too!

We used SQV and were really impressed with the prices and the customer service. Kate and Rich are so fun to work with! They were our favorite vendor! The quality is average; it didn't make me jump up and down, but it was pretty good and they produced a great wedding DVD for us. You can take a look at some of the video clips on their website - those clips are of the same quality as my wedding DVD.

We were wondering the same thing about Star Quality video. Their prices are amazing, but I'm not sure about the quality. It's a toss up for us between King Vincent Storm and Star Quality. Has anyone used KVS for videography??

We are using Vantage Point Films.  I think people get scared because they are housed in the same office as RAW Photo and they are ridiculously expensive, but they are not affiliated otherwise.

I would suggest calling Thomas and seeing if he can work with you.  We walked in with a budget which was below his asking rate and walked out with a contract.  He was extremely professional and reasonable.

We are going with VideoExperts/Steven Fowler Films.  His work is amazing and unique, it's what I would call "cinematic documentary", or a documentary with an artistic flair.  He imbues good music and interesting angles into the film.  FI & I, both being film buffs, loved him from the moment we saw his samples, and honestly to this day, I can watch his samples over and over really feeling like I'm getting to know the couples and never get tired of watching, whereas other videographers I didn't last 5 minutes before I was bored with their samples.  You know its good film-making when you can watch someone else's wedding video multiple times and never get bored.

    Some links to his samples:
http://stevenfowlerfilms.com/gallery_coming_movies.html (check out under "wedding movies" and "coming attractions")
    http://www.video-experts.com/samples.html

As good as his work is, he is a bit pricey.  His pricing starts at $1995 and goes up to $7295.

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions!

I'm going to meet with Star Quality and CT Wedding Movies. They seem to have the best deals for my buck!

Irish- I know what you mean about getting bored! I look at the videos on some of the websites and a few seconds in I'm scrolling through. The people look so awkward too! You can tell a good editor when before anyone looks weird or it gets boring they cut to something else. Unfortunately, I get bummed when I see their price. I'm thinking if it's your own video you wouldn't get bored.

I really just want documentation of the day and be able to see, hear, and relive the moments years to come.

True.  I think every couple has their "it" things that they feel are important.  For FI & myself, it was flowers/decor/venue, film, and photography.  So we went for the best we could get in those areas within our budget.  If there are different aspects that are the "it" things to you, then focus your time and budget into those things and just get some basic videography to document the day.

We used Digital Media Odyssey.  Not sure if you were one of the people that said they were going to contact them when I posted our trailer.  Matt can be pricey, but he also has different packages for different price points.  He also tailored a package for us, and we negotiated on price... e.g.  We offered to pay him in cash, and he agreed that our total was the package price (i.e. that included the tax, versus tacking it on top). When we booked him (over a year ago) his packages started around $1500, but I know he had a plan to create more budget conscious packages that were even less than that.  Not sure if he did or not.  Here's the trailer for our wedding video if you want to take a look.

</div><div>I loved your video and the other sneak peeks I saw on his site! I was really upset when I saw that the basic package didn't allow for any add-ons and would only cover 6 hours when we have two different sites and a 2 hour wait in between- it was 1,500. The next package up would be what we would be interested in but it cost 2,400. If he was so accommodating with you maybe I won't let it discourage me and I'll see if we can meet and make a deal.

It might be worth talking to Matt.  When I first contacted him, I wasn't even sure if I could fit a videographer into our budget.  I talked a lot with him about how we could possibly tailor things and bring down the cost.  I would just be up front with him about it.  Tell him that you love his work, that he was recommended to you, and you want to try and work something out to use him.  I don't know how much he'll be able to work with you, but it's worth a shot!  He also had mentioned a possible package he was contemplating trying out that had his second shooter, shooting the wedding and doing the editing under Matt's supervision.  That was one of his cost effective ideas.  He would supervise the editing so that it had the quality and feel of what he does, but you'd get it at a cheaper rate.  You might ask about that too.  I hope you can work something out with him!

I'm using Sean Williams Videography. Great rate and he is willing to adjust his packages to your needs. I selected his Photo/Video Package for $1300. He offered to do a 3D photo montage for free as well. He shot my cousins wedding last year and the video came out great. Good Luck!
