FI Wedding Ring Insurance?

I know that my ring is insured. Just wondering if any of you got your FI's wedding ring insured if you have already purchased it? His wedding ring is very nice and has diamonds in it he wanted some bling!

Thanks!

Re: FI Wedding Ring Insurance?

  • check you policy.  If you own your home it has a set amount usually that it will cover.  I bumped mine up for my ring and then enough to cover the small amount of nice jewlery I had on top of it.

It depends on what it's worth.  if it was just a couple hundred it might not be worth it but where it has bling it might be worth insuring it.

<div>No I'm renting right now. And my Ering is insured through a policy he has just for the ring. His wedding band was $700. </div>

  • We are also renting. Our renters insurance only covers items stolen or destroyed in the apartment. My e ring is insured on a separate policy in case it is lost or accidentally damaged. I believe if your FI is wearing the ring outside the home and something happens it won't be covered. I'd suggest adding his ring to your policy since it probably won't cost that much more. We haven't insured FI's ring because its tungsten and easily replaceable.
  • FI's ring is worth a couple hundred dollars, so we didn't insure it. However, we did add on to our renters policy to get coverage for my engagement ring. Then it is covered if it lost, stolen, whatever.
  • We have seperate policies on my e-ring and both of our wedding bands. It was like $30 for a whole year. Very worth it if anything were to happen!
  • We ended up just bumping up the amount our policy covers under jewelry.

  • I'm an insurance agent, and this is what I would suggest. If you have a renters insurance policy, call and ask if you can "schedule" your jewelry. You will give them a copy of the appraisal, and that is what they will insure it at.  If you have a homeowners policy, it can be scheduled the same way.  This way it gives you better coverage than what is automatically covered on your policy. Usually it will extend coverage if you drop it down the sink, lose it in a swimming pool, the diamond only falls out and you can't find it.  And most "scheduled" items have a $0 deductible.  Also, a lot of policies that have "automatic" coverage built in, your deductible applies. Which could be $500 or $1,000.
