Workout Accountability: Thursday

How is everyone this morning?

I haven't been on much this week thanks to major computer issues at work.  My comp up and died a horrible death, so now I have a Co-workers old laptop.

Last night I ran 5.5 miles, 5 at race pace and did some ab exercises.  Tonight I'll lift and do the elliptical.  My parents and younger brother are in town tonight and taking us to dinner after, so I need to get in a good workout!

Re: Workout Accountability: Thursday

  • Jude - Computer issues suck, nice job on the run!

Last night I ran 5 miles and did a few planks.  I'm slowly starting to see my interval training pay off.  My time has improved  and if I can keep it up I will hopefully be in the mid 50min timeframe for my 7 mile race this summer.  It's a struggle to do 5 at that pace and add two more miles and bottlenecking from 12,000 runners and I will still probably be over an hour!

Tonight will be lifting/squats and abs with maybe a little cardio warm-up.
  • I didn't get up on time this morning, so I'll be Insanity-ing after work tonight!

I went to spin class this morning. My cousin's girlfriend ended up being our substitute spin instructor. I had no idea she was even an instructor, so that was cool. She did a really good ride and her music was awesome! I will be hitting up the gym tomorrow morning too. FI and I are going away this weekend to see the Syracuse/UCONN game. FI is really into college basketball. Hopefully I can get in a workout on Sunday when we get back! I find it's really hard to keep my eating on track when we go away, so I'm going to really try and push myself to stick with that.

Jude & lbarr - nice job on your runs! Sorry you are having PC issues Jude :( I hate that!

  • I would love to be able to run like you guys do by this summer and report in some good distances; but first we're still in get back to the gym mode - week 2.

My FI and I usually work out together, but a girl jumped on the elliptical beside me before my FI got to it, so we were separated and it didn't work out well at all. I did a mile in 12:45 and was dead, so I did the 30-minute circuit training the gym offers (machine, steps, machine, steps, repeat). Those steps are killer.

Does anyone have good suggestions for toning arms??

  • Grocery shopping and a friend coming over for dinner prevented me from getting a workout in last night, but I still ate relatively well so I don't feel bad about taking a night off. Gonna hit the gym after work today!

  • Yesterday afternoon I did 30 mins on the elliptocal then did some weight training for 20ish mins. Today, I'll do a circut training class at the park district. After work I have to go to the mall and return two Victoria's  Secret bathing suits that were too small. How's that for motivation to get my butt to class tonight?! Haha

  • I took a break yesterday since I haven't been feeling well, but tonight I'm going back to my Thursday routine of running on an elliptical for 30 minutes before hitting the TurboKick class.  I'm taking the weekend off so I can drive to MI to spend some time with FI finally and take care of some of the last wedding stuff, so I figure I better really make tonight count!
  • I'm coming down with a cold (again- thanks FI for working with kids all day & bringing home every.single.germ!!!!!) I still plan to run with my group after work tonight.  As long as I'm just having sinus/throat/headache issues I'm good to run.  As soon as it hits my chest, I'm out.

Kimberly- to answer your arm toning question:  I like free weights a lot.  I get a 10 to 15 dumbell in each hand for most of mine, but if you're just starting out use a 5-8 pound and work your way up.
-chest flys (like a bench press but you open your arms to the side with your arms straight, and don't let them extend below the bench-that will stress your rotator cuff)

-rows (stand upright, hinge at the waist, do NOT round your back.  Your back should be flat like a table top & parallel to the ground.  With your arms under your shoulders, bend your elbows out beside you and bring the weights to just under your chest... it should look like a backwards bench press but standing)

-upright rows (standing up, weights in your hands in front of your waist.  This one is just like the rows except you're standing up.  Your elbows should bend out to the side, and you should end up with the weights in front of your chest, but don't rais them higher than your nipple line)

-shoulder presses (standing up, weights in your hands, hands at shoulder level, elbows bent by your side.  Straighten your arms up overhead, just slightly in front of you.

-Bicep curls & tricep dips, and push-ups... pretty self-explanatory

Wow that got long, sorry.  I do 3 sets of this circuit at 10 reps per set.  I do my first set with 10 pounds, then my next 2 sets with 15 pounds except the bicep curls, my right elbow gives me a little trouble so I keep the weight light on those.
  • Last night me and the FI went to the gym.  I did a 15 min warm up of walking then running at 5.5 mph.  Did some arms and leg work then walked at incline and watched the New Girl on my phone for 30 min.

Today we are going back to the gym after seeing an apartment.  I'm going to do mostly cardio and maybe abs. :) Feeling good!!!
  • Hey all,
I wasn't feeling that great so I didn't do much, just basic squats, push ups, crunchs, fab ab februrary.

Walked on the treadmill this morning.  Will be trying a new classs at the gym, Boot Camp Conditioning, looks really hard, so here's hoping!!

For toning arms, I would try to do tricep dips (those have really improved my triceps) Also, in my body works class, we do a LOT of reps.  So I do a 7.5lb weight, for about 32 reps, right in a row, no break.  This is true for bicep curls and tricep exercises. Hope that helps!!
  • I took the dog for a long walk and went to Zumba this morning. Then I worked with my trainer. She kicked my butt. Owwweeeee! Have a good day ladies. Keep up the good work!

  • I was stoked yesterday after running the furtherest without stopping since last summer. Hard work is finally paying off. Scheduling a 5K for first of April.
  • I plan to run 3 miles tonight, plus walk my 8 flights of stairs at work 3 times throughout today :) Just to get some extra butt toning in!

  • I woke up a little sore from yesterday's intense circuit and since I've been pushing it a little harder at the gym lately today seems like a good day for "active recovery" with a cardio circuit involving rowing for 15 minutes, stair climber for 15 minutes, and running 15 minutes. Will probably finish with 15 minutes of ab work. This will give me a nice "writing break!"
