  As with most things, it depends...
  
  fondant or buttercream? how many tiers? how much decoration on the cake? how many people are you getting for?
  
  Based on my research of about 8 cake companies in Miami, I would say that On average buttercream should be ABOUT $1.50-$2 per slice. Fondant $4-$6 per slice. That varies based on the questions i mentioned above.
  
  Depending on what you're looking for, I would highly suggest trying Mighty FIne Cakes. They were the best cake, the best design, and the best price from all the places I checked out.

  Most places are $4-$6 buttercream or $7-$10 for fondant. Plus delivery. Which I have found to be a flat rate or anywhere from $0.50 a mile to $2.50 a mile.
  
  I am using Sugarchef. They gave me a free tasting and were more than happy to make me a custome cake of my dreams. A lot of places charge you for a cake tasting.

  I just spoke with my baker today and she told me her prics start at $5 a person, and we are going for a simple cake for around 50 people (we're having multiple desserts so, expecting 75-100 but not cake for everyone) I'm hoping we'll be around $300.

  I had a buttercreme cake for 100 - 3 teirs and was charged $4 per person and a small delivery fee by We Take The Cake
