Everything is so complicated.. need advice.

My FI and I have been engaged since March and were going to start planning in Dec for an Oct '11 wedding, we live in Illinois and alllll his family lives here ( I have none what so ever here) and allll my family is spread out throughout the US. Well we started an invite list last night, and we have a total of 25 people... =/ I know most of my family would not fly up, except immediate family of course.. I'm pretty bummed because I wanted my dream wedding but I don't see the point of having a wedding and reception and spending all that money for 25 people, when some won't show up anyway. I don't mind having a small wedding I just want the people who I care most about to be there, but definitely not in a courthouse. It's just so difficult getting everyone in the same state at the same time with everyones schedules. What would you do??

I don't know what your question is really. Invite everyone and plan the wedding you want. Are you asking whether you should invite random people so you can have your dream wedding? I'm sorry your family won't travel, but small weddings can be very very nice. GL.

FI and I live in LA but I am from Ohio and he is from Wisconsin. We both know that most of the people we would want at your wedding will not be able to make it because we are having it in LA. We are having a wedding of about 30 people or so in LA. Our reception will be at a very nice restaurant in their private dinning room. It is not the typical wedding but it is what works for us. After the wedding we will have parties in our respective home towns so we can celebrate with those who could not make the trip to LA. There is nothing wrong with a small wedding. Sometimes a large wedding just isn't possible.

25 people is your entire guest list? His side + your side + friends? You can do so much with that amount of people. Make it a very nice, intimate wedding. You can have it wherever you like. With only 25 people (like pp said) you can do a destination wedding. There is nothing wrong with a small wedding.

We are having a small wedding of about 30-40 ppl. You can do so much with a small wedding..it can be more personalized. That is what I am planning to do..just add little personal touches, Just have fun with it :-)
