Cake Alternatives (Not Cupcakes)

I'm sure this has been asked to death, but I'm looking for vegan alternatives to cake that aren't cupcakes and preferrably not pie. My fiance and I are not cake people, and I suggested a pie, but he's not excited about it. We'd like to have some variation of a traditional cutting with some sweet dessert for a yellow, outdoor May wedding.

Do you like brownies?  You could have a tower of brownies, maybe layered with blondies for variation.

I have a friend who is gluten free and did a rice crispie cake at her wedding. They formed it into several different sized round cakes that they layered. Then they drizzled chocolate and put flowers on each layer. I am not sure what you would do for the butter needed to make rice crispies but the rest should be vegan friendly.

I can't think of any vegan desserts off the top of my head, but there might be a vegan bakery that's local for you. They'd be able to help.

Vegan here. Quick thing rice crispsies are only vegan us you use vegan marshmallows 99 percent are not. You could do them with Sara sweet marshmallows but they are pricy. You can do brownies, a vegan tart, vegan ice cream sundaes, vegan cookies, also add in berries. Maybe some vegan pastries. I am getting a vegan cake made by a bakery but then having my friend fly with the two tier cake ( yes this is risky but it can be done) from dc to fl. If you are in la then I know there are some vegan or vegan friendly bakeries. You should try and find one to discuss with them ideas. Here are some of the deserts that DC vegan bakery serve http://www.stickyfingersbakery.com/menu/ for ideas. They also do traditional wedding cakes and won cupcake wars two days ago. But that is an aside but exciting to see a vegan bakery do so well.

What if you were to do a vegan cheesecake or vegan ice cream cake?  I know there are vegan puddings and custards out there that could be used for custard cake.

In addition to the suggestions above, what about having an ice cream bar? You could have the ice cream already set in bowls and set up a bar for toppings (fruits, nuts, sprinkles, etc.). You could also offer different types of pastries (scones, danishes, etc.) or some type of mousse.

I would definitely talk to a vegan bakery - they will have experience working with vegan ingredients to produce a product with good taste and texture.  In LA that shouldn't be a problem, search online for a place with really good reviews.  Vegan desserts are really tricky to get right, and I wouldn't do it myself or trust a friend, especially with a new recipe because it often requires some tinkering.

PPs have covered some good ideas; I've had some really excellent vegan brownies and cookies, and you could work with the bakery to design something  to cut.  Vegan ice cream is pretty expensive, but if you can find some that is tasty and within your budget, I do like the idea of an ice cream bar - though you'd have to have somewhere to store it and keep it cool for an outdoor wedding.

What about doing some small tarts of some sort or berry crisps?

I only eat raw cakes. I don't eat exclusively raw food but regular sweets are off limits (no milk, sugar, flour, yeast etc..) and ever since I discovered raw cakes I'm in love with them :)))
There's a natural market close to our place  that sells raw cake slices, I love them all but the raspberry cheesecake is my absolute favorite. When I was in LA I found a similar raw cake I liked at a whole foods market, I think it was on Santa Monica Blvd but I'm not sure. Give it a try ;-) and good luck.
