I'm in Miyagi-ken.  I don't even bother with looking in Japan.  I only recently broke down and finally bought some craftsy things to do some DIY stuff like my garter, but WOW is it expensive here!  I do all my planning online.  Wedding invite designer was found on etsy.com after I put up an alchemy bid.

Where are you?  I take it from your Tokyo Hands comment that you're in Tokyo.  There aren't any Tokyo Hands up here, but we do have Loft.  Man, I wish I could register there.

BTW, my bridesmaids and I took a trip to a wedding dress place in Yokohama to try on dresses for all of us (for fun).  They tried on the coloured wedding dresses, and I found some horrors to try on myself as well.  It was effing hilarious, and if you can keep a straight face and not affend, I suggest you do it.  We took pictures and the dresses were absolutely horrifying!  Any wedding dress boutique in Japan is the same as the next--and explosion of ruffles and bows.

  • Lol...omg - do you have bridesmaids here in Japan???? I'm actually in Yokohama right in the midst of bridal bows and ruffles galore. We live right in the middle of all the wedding shops so every time I walk to the grocery store I see the crushed velvet blue or sequined lime green dresses in the window :o)

I haven't worked up the courage to go alone to try on dresses :op And yes, it is fricken expensive here. I'm just glad we can eat...the prices of pretty much everything just kill me over here. Where are you from in the U.S.?? I did check your pages with your wedding stuff  - everything looks so cute so far :))
  • sorry to be butting in butt nukke I would love to see one of those japanese wedding disasters LOL

alyssa--ok I made my bridesmaids promise not to let those photos show up on facebook, but I'll ask them to email them to me so I can put them on here.

Frances--I'm from Toronto, Canada actually.  My FI is from NE Pennsylvania though.  How about you?  Detroit?  I was raised in SW Ontario about an hour north of Windsor.  We're neighbours on both sides of the ocean!

BTW I love Yokohama!  The food and shopping there is fantastic.  I also voted the Yokohama ferriswheel in my top ten scariest places in Japan to be during an earthquake. :P

  • How about today!?!?!? Holy crap - I'm scared to go outside for fear I might blow away ;op Yeah, my brother and I were on the ferris wheel in Odaiba (sp?) on a super windy day....I was freaking out a little!

Yes, I am from the Detroit area! Is your FI here with you???

Yeah, he and I both live here together.

Most of my bridesmaids were working here with me as well, but two moved away about 8 months ago, one moved away about 4 months ago and one more (and myself) are moving out of Japan in about 4 months.  And my MOH is in Vancouver, BC.  So none of my bridesmaids will be around until the wedding--so no bridal showers or bachelorette/hen parties.  boooo.  oh well though :D  That's the cost of having international friends.

have you chosen your bridal party yet?  Where is your FI living?

  • Thats awesome you got to have your girlies here with you for a while anyways. Most of the people I've met here in Japan are super nice but many of them are married and on the kid bandwagon with anywhere between 1 and 4 rugrats running around so young, fun girl time usually has to wait until my visits home :oP

We are not sure how long we will be here for - probably until the end of this year. I may go home in September and get a head start on getting our houses together and hopeflly he will be able to make it home by Christmas :0) His job is soooo busy here - I can't believe how much the Japanese work!!!! It's crazy ... must be how they can afford to eat here :o)

ALl of my BM's are back home in Michigan - most of them are married so I'm thinking I'm going to have pregger girlfriends in the wedding party :0) hahaha - we shall see...
