Has everyone had one already or having one.

My cousin has offered to throw us an engagment party. I wasn't even planning on one at all.  She told me to pic a day.

I picked either first weekend  or second weekend in November.  Is that two early and is it rude to say 4 weeks later is ok.

December is crazy month.   And they live an hr south of us and once the winter weather hits in Chicago January could be tough.  That leaves Februray or March 3 months before the wedding.

    MrsK nailed it. Either do it now, or don't do it at all.

    For what it's worth, we didn't have an engagement party, and I don't feel like I missed out on anything.

    We were going to have one until I went on the E board and discovered what our families usually do is very much frowned upon (pick a restaurant, get together and buy your own meals).  Being a newb I let the E board influence my decision and we didn't have one.  I kind of wish I hadn't allowed my decision to be changed but that boat has sailed and we probably didn't really miss anything.

    This wasn't my idea this was completely offered by my cousin.

    Its just a dinner at her house and some wine and stuff aftewards nothing major.

    FI and I didn't have one because we couldn't get our schedules to align with our hostess. By the time we could have planned one this month or next month it wouldn't have been appropriate.

    We also didn't have an engagement party and at first I wanted one at first, but then kind of stopped caring after a few weeks. I wanted one after we got engaged so I could be ooh and ahhed at, but I don't feel like I missed out at all. His parents and our MOH/BM took us to dinner the day he proposed and we drank some champagne at dinner, but that's as close to a party as we got. 

    I think MrsK gave A+ advice. She's a smarty and you should listen to her.

    I also didnt have one and dont feel like I missed out on anything. We went to a small dinner with our parents and siblings to celebrate. I totally agree with mrsk, have it no later than November and I think it would be fine.

    FSIL is throwing us a low-key engagement party very similar to what she and FI did for their dad's birthday this past summer. We live on opposite sides of the country, and there are still some extended family members I have yet to meet, so she wants to have a big powwow when I fly there for the holidays. FSIL knows that none of these people will be invited to the wedding, and it's more of a "come hang out with the family and meet the girl who's marrying FI (and their child if you haven't met Tiny Human yet)."

    FSIL burned the burgers for her dad's birthday so I don't anticipate it being too formal of an event. ;)
