Videographer

Whos having one? How long do you have them for? Ceremony only? Whole day? If you aren't having one is it due to budget or just don't want one?

Re: Videographer

  • I picked "No, not in the budget". I feel like that & not having a DOC will be my biggest vendor regrets. :-/

  • I really wanted one, but it's not in the budget.  I am hoping to get a nice video camera that we can either set up on a tripod or have someone hold for the ceremony.

  • It's not in the budget. I'm hoping to either buy or borrow a videocamera and set it up on a tripod so at least my grandparents would be able to see it at some point as they are unable to come. I think it will likely be my biggest regret to not have a videographer.

  • I put undecided because we aren't having a professional one.  It wasn't in our budget and neither of us thought it was that important.  We do have friends that have done it in the past, though, and they have offered to video our vows, which is the only part we want.....and not do any fancy editting.

  • We're  having it at the reception only (not an option to vote so I put "undecided".  lol).  Our DJ is throwing it in for $50.00 because its something new he will be adding to his dervice.  I am not having a professional do it at the ceremony, but we'll have a tripod set up and someone (not sure who, yet) monitor it.

  • We were not going to because I really didnt think we needed one or have money in the budget for it.  Then a couple of days ago a friend of FI's asked if her boyfriend, who is an invited guest, could film the ceremony and parts of the reception to add to his portfolio.  We decided that it would be nice to have and our parents would appreciate it.

  • I'd love to have one but it doesn't look like it's in the budget. Our DJ works closely with a videography company as well that we'd get a discount though so I'm going to try and figure out if I can squeeze it in.

  • My maid of honors husband has a really good cam, and he is going to do video for the whole cermony and some for the reception...

  • Thanks for the responses. Originally we did not want one, so we did not add it into the budget. The closer we get to the date, the more I think I want one. I keep going back and forth though. I don't want to regret not getting it on video but I also don't really want to spend the money. We will most likely end up hiring someone since the whole theme we have been going with is "we only get to do this once so we might as well go all out".

I'm thinking it is better to have regrets that I wasted $1400 then to regret not spending the money and not being able to go back and redo it.

I seriously wanted one and FI thought it wasn't worth it and refused to chip in for it. I decided to just do some really good searching and try and find a 'reasonable' videographer/cinematographer early on in the wedding planning that way I could pay little by little for it. I found one & paid for it all myself. I joke with FI saying he isn't allowed to see the video since he didn't think it was necessary. Tongue out

  • My friend who got married said it was the best money she spent and said I should do it. I didn't want to but FI said we should because my Mom will not be able to come so she will be able to see the ceremony
  • We decided against a videographer.  I was undecided for awhile but my fiance was against it the whole time.  Ultimately we decided we would probably hardly ever watch it, and the prices we were finding were just not worth it.

  • It's really not in the budget for us, but I think that if it were possible, I would add it back in.  It's not necessarily important to me today, but we watch my parent's wedding video from time to time and I'd love to be able to do that with my own down the road.

  • Everyone I know who had one said they only watched it once, and then completely forgot about it's existence. Knowing that, I considered it a huge waste of finances and put the money toward a better venue and catering.

  • we started looking on craigslist and checking film schools, but they were still more than we wanted to spend.  My mom emailed one of my cousins who owns a film restoration company to see if she had any suggestions, and she and her husband have offered to do it as our wedding present!! It won't be anything fancy, which isn't what I wanted anyways. I just wanted something to make sure we got our ceremony on film.

  • We're not hiring anyone..like PP we'll probably set up a recorder somewhere in the Church on a tripod and have someone watch to make any necessary adjustments...but that's about it..I want the ceremony on video..but I love home videos of things rather than spending all that crazy money to edit and stuff! It'll be nice to show it to the kids and oh no grandkids one day when we have them.
