Second Weddings

Small yet classy second marriage

We are both older and want a nice, small, intimate wedding. I would love to get any ideas and tips. I am hoping we have finally found a venue. Seems most are more interested in the younger, larger wedding.

What do you mean by "older?"  Many of us are in our 40's, I'm in my early 50s (DH is 10 years younger, his first marriage).    Truthfully, the age thing doesn't matter--it's just what's important to you!
image Don't mess with the old dogs; age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill! BS and brilliance only come with age and experience.

H and I are 50's and we had a small (50+ people) Sunday reception/cocktail party at a local golf club.  It was heavy apps, hosted bar, and cake.  It was very nice.  We had IPod music, but everyone was so busy socializing that the music was turned down and no one got up on the dance floor.  My best friend/matron of honor DIY'ed our centerpieces/card box/guestbook.  Everything was pretty simple, yet it was classy.  I did not wear a "wedding gown" - it was a tea length green summer dress and H wore Dockers and a toned down Hawaiaan (sp) shirt.  Most guests were dressed docker casual or cruise wear type stuff I guess you could call it.

Be happy to answer any questions you have.

Welcome, welcome!  I am 50.  FI will be 55 on our wedding day.

We're inviting about 70 guests and expect just under 60 to show (based on chatter after the Save-the-Dates were sent last year).  We're having an outdoor, non-denominational ceremony (officiated by my cousin, an ordained minister), followed by sit-down dinner and dancing. There will be an open bar. I plan to wear a floor length dress (not a bridal gown) and custom made, snakeskin pumps; FI and the best men (1 for me, 1 for him) are wearing tuxes.   Ceremony music -- mostly classical, played by a string quartet.  Cocktail, dinner and dancing music -- DJs.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Good luck with your planning!

Hi  - Mark and I just got engaged this Feb on a crusie ship - it was quite lovely :)  We are planning on a small outdoor wedding in Aug. 2013.  We plan on 50-60 guest - mostly family and closest friends.  We have both been married before (over 25 yrs).  I am 48 and FI is 50.  We plan on renting the Keg Manor for a few hours, to be married in their outside patio/garden, if it rains then indoor this 200 yr old manor.  We are having a cocktail wedding reception.  We will have our own music playing as background music, and will have catered appetiziers and open bar for drinks.  We plan on having cupcakes professionally made instead of a cake.  My photographer will be my sister-in-law.  After our 4 hours are up in the manor, then we will continue our party at Mark's parent's home.   I plan on wearing a simple cocktail length ivory lace dress.  I am hoping that Mark will wear his Naval White Uniform :)    My flowers will be hand picked from his Mom's beautiful flower gardens and my flower girls will be my 2 granddaughters.  I will have my son who will be 31 in 2013 give me away.  My daughter who will be 33, will be my bridesmaid, and bf for moh.  We are hoping to have all of this for under 4K.   We do not wish for any gifts as our invites will read "your presence will be our presents"  Cheers'   Bonnie

We got married when I was 56 and NotFroofy was 41.  We had only a dozen guests at the ceremony, and took them all to a nice lunch in the private dining room of a nearby restaurant afterward.  We then had an at-home reception for 60 people three days later.
