Colors: how much matching?

Hi,

I am currently trying to figure out some wedding colors so I can coordinate all the decorations and hopefully the bridesmaids' dresses. The wedding will be on a beach and I love beach themed weddings with starfish, shells, sand, anchors, etc. I am thinking light blues, with yellow and white for all of the decor and centerpieces, etc. BUT I really wish my bridesmaids could wear purple! Is there a way to combine all of these colors so it doesn't look tacky and not put together? Should I forgo my dreams of purple to match the rest of the theme?

I am wary of blue dresses because my FI's brother had a blue-themed wedding.

Thanks!

  • How about instead of light blues, yellow and white, have the girls in light purple and use light purple, yellow, and white.  I think you could still accomplish the same theme with that and it would be really pretty.

  • Just use purples instead of blues if you really want purple.  But his brother doesn't own the color blue, if you want your girls in blue dresses you can.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • IMO I think purple and blue look good together so I don't think it would look bad if you put your girls in purple dresses as long as you pick a complementary shade.

  • I think if you went with a light purple, it'd be ok, but that's a lot of colors going on.

  • You could do purple, yellow and white for the ceremony colors and blue, yellow and white for the reception.  I like blue and purple together, but having blue, purple and yellow together for everything sounds a little Easter-ish.
