Engaged Encounter/Pre Cana

Has anyone done an engaged encounter weekend or Pre Cana classes? I'm looking at  either the Engaged Encounter in Medway, MA, Pre Cana at St Basil's in Methuen, or  marriage prep at the Espousal Retreat Center in Waltham.

Has anyone had experience with one of these? Other recommendations? We'd rather do a weekend than weekly classes.

Re: Engaged Encounter/Pre Cana

  • We actually had a place in Duxbury reccomended to us by our priest.  I can ask a friend of mine where she went and let you know.  I know it was closer to the Boston area so that may be a bit of a hike for you!

We did Pre Cana at St. Joseph in Boston (West End near MGH).  It was a Friday evening (6-8pm) and Saturday (9-3pm).  I have to say, my fiance and I were very pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was.  It was a valuable experience and actually kinda fun!

    Best of Luck.

We did ours here as well - but was 2 days of 9-4.  It was pretty good and, from what we understand, a relatively new program in the Boston diocese.

  • We did the one in Waltham.  It wasn't bad at all about a day and a half one weekend.  Much more tolerable than what I thought and the people were relatable and were open to a lot more than I thought they would be.  We got a lot of worksheets that were helpful and we were able to do them by ourselves and then discuss with FI's about them.
