Hand cancelling

Has anyone else had their invites hand cancelled at the post office? I took my parents invite and FIL's invite to the post office yesterday as a practice run. Apparently at our post office, hand cancelling means they take a stamp with all caps NON MACHINEABLE in red ink and stamp it right under the recipient's address. I know most people are going to throw away the envelope anyway, but I feel like this looks super tacky! I think I'm going to send my BM's invites this week without hand cancelling and see if the machine rips them up or not.... If not, I'm definitely NOT having the post office stamp a giant red mark across the front.

Re: Hand cancelling

  • I sent mine without hand cancelling them. I personally am not bothered by the machine stamp on the envelope as like you said most people throw it out anyways.

  • I have no problems with the machine stamp. I'd prefer that over a giant red hand stamp right below the main address! I wish I had taken a pic.
  • I had mine hand cancelled but only because I had custom stamps made and it was recommended for that. Also, Canada post does hand canceling differently than USPS so it's not so "ugly."

  • I'm just dropping mine in the bin in front of my town's post office tomorrow morning on my way to work. I happened to be near my parent's house yesterday so I hand delivered theirs.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!
