Guest at a wedding ~ ok to wear this??

I am going to a wedding at the end of the month for a close friend of DH's family (ie: his brother is in the bridal party & DH has know the groom his entire life). It's a Sunday evening wedding with a 4pm ceremony and the reception immediately following.  It has been so long since I've been to a wedding that I wasn't part of the bridal party, I wanted to run what I am planning on wearing by you ladies and would appreciate some honest feedback!

I happened to find this dress on clearance, loved the way it looked on me so decided to get it ~ the dress I have is in lapis (the bridesmaids at this wedding are wearing black).

I am also planning on having my hair and makeup done that day (I am working the night before and am going to catch a few hours sleep in the morning and thought this was just easier) ~ with the time of the ceremony I'm not sure if I should keep my makeup more on the simple side or go for a more "evening" look (the only difference would really be if I do a smokey eye or not.  I have fairly long, thick hair so I was planning on having it curled and done half up/half down like this:

Thoughts???

I love that dress...I almost had my BMs wear it in lapis. Is it at a traditional wedding venue (over a restaurant or more casual location)? Are you comfortable wearing a long gown if other guests are dressed more casually? If so, then I think that you should dress like you normally would, smoky eye and all. Even though it's a Sunday, it's an evening wedding. The Sunday night weddings I've attended have been just as dressy as Friday or Saturday. And I love that hairstyle too. You will look great! Another option might be a short cocktail dress or little black dress with a great pair of shoes. I bet you are looking forward to being a guest without added responsibilities. Enjoy!

  • I think as long as it's a more formal wedding it would be fine. It's a beautiful dress. Really as long as you dont show up in white you're good lol!!! :)
  • Thanks, ladies!!! I actually found out today that the groomsmen aren't even wearing tuxes so it's less formal then I thought ... still doing my hair and makeup just gonna stick to a LBD. =)
