NWR: Would you side-eye me?

So Ladies (and gents?)

I'm considering getting tattoo #2 here pretty soon and I've long been wanting this certain quote.

"It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live"

I love what this represents, I am often the type of person so lust after what others have and want the finer things in life. I too frequently forget all that I have in my life that is wonderful. This is a great reminder to those things.

But... it is from the Harry Potter novels! I am a HP fan, but that is not the reason I'd get a HP related tattoo. If you saw this quote, would you side-eye me?

  • I've read all of the HP books, and I had no idea that was from Harry Potter.  If I saw that tattoo, I might ask you where the quote is from...but I might not.   I like the meaning, and I can see why you'd want a tattoo with that quote.

  • I knew it was from Harry Potter immediately.  I'm assuming it's in the books, but it's definitely in the first movie, which makes it more memorable.

I'd need to know how big, where, etc. the quote would be for me to say if I would side-eye it.  As long as it's not tattooed across your back in giant, sparkly letters, I guess it's no big deal.  Better a Harry Potter quote than, say, a Hunger Games quote!
  • The only tattoos I truly side-eye are facial tattoos and poorly done ones (this includes misspelled, so double- and triple-check that your artist has the quote written down correctly). If you're going to pay money to have something permanently put on your body, at least get someone who's good at it.

And I love HP. I'd probably judge you for a Twilight quote.

  • The only tattoos I side eye are the extremely vulgar ones that are in very visible places.

  • I knew it was from Harry Potter, too. I really love that quote and I think it would make a beautiful tattoo. And TBH, even though most people I know have tattoos, I don't like them myself. If I were to get one, though, it would probably be something from a book or song I love, and who knows, maybe even Harry Potter.

Definitely find a good tattoo artist. My sister got a Pearl Jam tattoo back when we used to go to their concerts together all the time, and the artist did such a terrible job that another artist refused to even touch it up, and she had to get a cliche blue butterfly tattooed over it.

Anyway, get the tattoo you want. I certainly wouldn't "side-eye" it.

  • I don't personally like tattoos, but H has one. He was actually tattoo-free when we started dating, but did an Ironman and really really wanted an Ironman tattoo. Even though I hate them, I went with him and supported him because, hey, not my body.
    Um enough about me.

I love HP, and knew it was HP, so I might be biased, but I think it's great. It's a great quote, and as the years go by, fewer and fewer people will recognize what it's from anyways. And those who remember the quote will obviously be fans, and think it's near. Those who won't remember will still see it as a great quote.
The only tattoos I really really side-eye are face and neck tattoos.
  • I would definitely not side-eye it, (unless it was on your face or something) and I LOVE that it's from HP.

I actually really want one that says "To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure."

That Dumbledore sure knows his stuff Wink
  • I would not side eye it, I love Harry Potter and have read all the books/watched all the movies but I didnt know it was from that. I think its a great quote and would make a great tattoo.

  • I would never know it was from the book unless you told me
