VENUE - Court in the Square

My first post!
I've read that the owner and contact at Court in the Square is tough to deal with, especially in nailing down a price.  So, I'm hoping to save some time and figure out if it's even worth it.  I'm needing a price quote to compare with other venues.

We're looking at a wedding for approximately 90 people with a budget of $15,000 (this does not include dress or rehearsal dinner).  We're able to keep with this is we go with Blue Ribbon Cooking and Culinary Center (everything but photo, DJ, and some extra decor for $9000).

For those of you who have nailed Court in the Square down...am I dreaming that $15,000 would work?

I don't know anything about the cost of that Court in the Square, but have seen pictures and it does look beautiful! If you go with Blue Ribbon, I think you'll be happy, though. We had looked into that place as well but opted for another venue. Good luck!

    Hi, and welcome!

I visited Court in the Square last year, and we both fell in love with the place. It's so unique, and appeared to be very affordable....at first.

Bob, the owner/contact, refuses to give you a set price list.  This was extremely bothersome to us as we wanted to know that we were being charged the same as any other couple.

You are able to review his menu options and select dishes that will keep your budget in check, however, there are no prices on the menu, so you are again wondering if you are being charged appropriate amounts.

Bob is very nice, but he tried a little too hard to convince us that our guests needed a full meal for our late evening wedding.  This made us feel like we would 'disappoint' him if we chose otherwise, possibly resulting in higher costs for the appetizers we did choose.

A few of my vendors have worked at the CITS, and said it ended up being nice and fun, but that Bob is very difficult to work with. From other posts I've read online, it can be tough to get a hold of him as well.  He comes through in the end, but it'll be a rough road to your wedding day.  So if you are hiring a coordinator, then maybe it won't be that bad (for you). Otherwise, I say save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.

    Hope this helps!

(Also, PM me your email and I can send you some docs I got from Bob if you'd like)

hi! i don't know anything about court in the square except that i had trouble with my first (only) phone conversation with them....

i called 13 months in advance, and he laughed at me, saying i was just starting to plan my wedding now? and "of course" they are booked....he gave me a website to look at other venues (very nice of him), but the website sucked (so...no thank you to him)...

    good luck, and welcome!

Our wedding is approximately the same size and budget as yours.  I really liked the pictures of CITS, but after all the horror stories, we didn't even attempt it.

We've booked the Lake Union Cafe, because I really wanted a venue with character (which was CITS' appeal as well).  Dann and Victoria have been awesome to deal with so far, and are super prompt with responding to emails.  I've also heard that the food is wonderful! Also, they gave us a VERY specific price quote.

My wedding planner said that Bob can be really difficult to work with and that she certainly wouldn't recommend attempting it without a planner keeping on top of things along the way and taking charge of the contracts (so someone who is a little more involved than a DOC).

I am loving these message boards.  Thank you all for the responses!  So helpful!

Sweet_Adeline - My paralegal had her wedding at LUC and is still raving about Dann.  And yes, the food was really good!

We nearly went with CITS. We actually liked Bob when we met with him. He's a nice guy - a little direct, but we found he was very straightforward with rough estimates and details.

We ultimately didn't go with CITS because we fell in love with our venue - the Sanctuary at Admiral - although it was a more pricey choice than CITS.

A coworker got married at CITS recently and says the food was terrible. The venue used cheap ingredients and presented it poorly. She feels that they paid way too much for what they got in the end. Throughout planning she also complained that he was hard to get a hold of.

I LOVED the venue! but Bob is a little tricky.  Super nice, but hard to nail down on pricing, as others have said. I think you can get it for your price, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle.

Hi Lady who first posted this. We also LOV blue Ribbon but he WILL NOT allow outside catering. But it really is beautiful and cheaper thatn 4500 for a Sat. Night rental @ another Venue. We are torn too. This is tough. But I think we are getting more and more used to Mustache BobUndecided... But 15,000 will work! And he will make it work. Tell him that is all you have including budget rental, food, and Beverage.
    Good Luck!!
