DIY Invites

Ok, I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and make my invites, RSVP cards, Enclosure cards and my programs. I just can't imaging spending $800 on paper that will be thrown away! Can someone tell me where to start? Should I get a kit or just do it all from scratch? Emily, I know you made your invites, any pointers?

I bought several invitation kits from Target on clearance, much more then I needed. I used the invite holder from them, and the paper that it came with for the actual information insert on my invite. I also bought some invites in 'print your own packs' from Hallmark and used that paper for the main invitation. After buying pens and such I don't think I spent more then $100 total. I hand painted my invite holders, and ended up getting a lot of compliments on how pretty they were. I had some trouble printing my response cards because they were small and my printer was giving me a hard time, so I just put them into the invites blank. It worked out well because I've gotten some pretty funny notes back from people RSVPing that I plan to put in my wedding scrapbook!

Thanks! I actually just came across a few things on do it your self weddings that were pretty cool. I may try some of these and incorporate them with some store bought kits. Here are the sites I found

I made my own they were pocket fold I ordered the pocket fold and envelope online and bought the paper at a paper supply store I have a picture but its on my home computer :0( I might have a picture of em on my FB (I cant access FB from my work computer) I can look for it tonight and email u the pics if youd like :0)

I just found a GREAT site! So I was planning on doing invitations with the little pocket folder thing and I was going to make them all myself using cardstock. I figured it would run me about $150-200 for the invites and rsvp cards. The only thing I was concerned about was it looking cohesive. BUT I found this site http://www.cardsandpockets.com/index.asp
I can order all my folders, invites, RSVP cards and envelopes, print them myself and just assemble them... all for a little under $200 bucks! AHHH I feel so much better about doing my invites now! Check the site out, they do mongrams, thank you cards and a bunch of other stuff.
I ordered a sample for my invite so Ill let you know how it turns out

im in the process of DIYing my invites and its giving me the biggest headache ever!!! and we're halfway through and i dont like them anymore.

but this has happened to me alot, i bought my dress, went through a phase of not liking it, then i liked it again, went through a phase of not liking my venue ect.. so i cant tell yet if i actually dont like my invites afterall or if im just having bride brain

are you using a kit? or making them completely from scratch? Do you have any pics on your bio?

i don't have any pics up yet. but i will definitly post to let you know when i get them online, right now its a mess

i did it completely from scratch. i used photoshop and publisher to create, and theyre more on the plain side but still nice i think.

and warning, theyre not really traditional and "by the book" etiquette, we did them the way we want them, and we put a lot of information on the inserts that normally goes on the websites since most of FI's aunts and uncles do not use the internet and my hillbilly family wont know the difference haha!!

i did mine from a kit I got at Michaels and I just added an embossed Eiffel Tower and changed the ribbon to be my color and added a colored map so I made it my own. I got tons of compliments and later on when my sister's mother-in-law got an invite from someone else with my invitation it looked so different she didn't even notice! Besides with all my 40% off coupons from Michaels and Joanns I think I ended up paying close to $120 on them for 75 invites.

I bought kits from Target on clearance. You can always add to it like put some ribbon or more design.

i bought all mine from michaels on sale too. it was $90 for 90 invites, they are pocket fold and come witheverything. perfect for me because im not one to like diy too much!
