Bridal Portraits?

Are you ladies having a bridal portrait session before your wedding, or waiting until the wedding day to have them taken?  I have mine scheduled for the end of September, but now I'm second guessing it.  I'd love to know what y'all are doing!

Re: Bridal Portraits?

  • I have never heard of these until joining TK. I'm planning to do a TTD session, after the wedding of course.

  • No, I guess I don't see a point. Plus I'd be nervous to get my dress dirty!

  • I've decided not to them, but a lot of brides do them. Since we're not having a bridal party, I'm sure I'll get a few good pictures of myself... Voila! Bridal portraits! :0P
  • I've known from the beginning I wasn't going to do them. It came down to this: what am I going to do with 100 pictures of just me? It seemed pointless other then being able to play dress up for one more day. I do however have some shots that I'd like to get on the day of, and I think that will be enough.

  • Like others have said, I don't really get it.

I think it would be fun but then I go to the whole "What am I going to do with all these?" I think also since I know it wasn't on my wedding day, I wouldn't want to include any of them in an album or something.

I also think the TTD would be fun but then I wonder what I would do with those pictures. I'm torn but I doubt I'll do either.

  • No, I won't be doing bridal portraits. I don't know anyone who has. I think the idea is interesting, but I don't want to pay to have my hair and makeup done twice, and pay my photographer even more than I am already paying her.

  • I have never heard of bridal portraits before TK either.  It seems to be a "southern thing" based on what I've read here.  I'm just doing pictures day of - I'd be too worried about getting my dress dirty before the wedding!
  • Thanks for the input!  They are somewhat popular in my area, because one large print is generally displayed at the reception.  However, the more I think about it, the more I'd like to save the $500 between hair, makeup, and my photog.

  • I've never heard of them before.  I will not be doing them.  I agree, I don't need any more pics of me in the dress, as I'm sure there will be a lot from the day of.

  • They are VERY popular in my "neck of the woods." Haha I think I am going to get them done. My friends mom has like a $4000 camera and said she would take them for me for free!! and shes not too bad either! I cant believe some of you had never heard of bridal portraits, though!
  • I will not be doing Bridal portraits, just pictures on my wedding day.

  • I think its funny how somebody commented it seems like a "southern thing" to do bridal portraits.  I guess us Southerners go above and beyond for every aspect of a wedding!  I am definitely doing bridal portraits and will order a canvas to have at the reception.  My mom will also have them to put up in her house.  I'm getting married October 20th and I am taking my bridals August 4th.  This should give my photographer enough time to edit the photos and for me to order them in time for the wedding.

  • I never thought about not doing them.  Every wedding I have been to (with the exception of one very informal wedding) had a canvas of the bride.  I plan on getting them done (in two weeks in fact)!  I have had a hair and make up trial run but I like the idea of seeing everything together to see how it looks before the big day in case any adjustments need to be made.  I understand not needing 100 pictures of myself, but I plan on giving them to family members because we don't really like the lame, group family shots post wedding.  I am fortunate that my photography package comes with bridal portrait time and my venue has time in it too.  I never realized it was a regional thing either!
