Frustration!!!

Ok so I've been trying to go to the gym but it seems like I never have time to go!! I try to get there at least 3 days a week and even that seems impossible sometimes between working, appointments, planning, family gatherings, and social functions. How does everyone manage to fit this in?? Do you just start saying no to social engagements??

  • I say no to most after-work events, which kind of sucks sometimes.  I do try to go to work events when I really want to or I think that it will be a good networking opportunity, but even then I try to plan ahead so I know I'll have time to get my workout in.

    I also have a group of friends I run with and go to happy hour with after our runs.  Lately, they've been doing more going out than running, so rather than going straight out with them, I'll do my run/gym and go meet them for a drink afterwards (in my running clothes--my running buddies don't care).

    It's definitely difficult to juggle social life and working out diligently, but find friends who want to join you, join a running group or attend classes at the gym on weekend mornings (I have a group I meet with 6-9 months out of the year at 7am on Saturdays--it gets the run out of the way), and ask yourself if you really want to go/will you regret not going.  If you won't regret not going, hit the gym :)
  • I agree that it is really hard to manage this.  I typically don't go out during the week, but whe I do I plan ahead.

    For example, I am doing dinner with a friend this week during the week.  I made plans for wednesday night because I know Wednesday I can get my workout done in the morning before work.  I try to keep most of my social stuff for weekends and then I have time to get a workout in and do my social things.

    It definitely isn't always easy, but it is about finding what is most important to you.  for me, I know I need to focus on getting healthy right now.  I will still see my friends, just maybe not 6 nights a week.
