Is it wedding help Thursday yet?

I need a cheap bartender.....and we were thinking of doing a cash bar....my family suggested that to offset the cost of it, since we really don't have it in the budget....but apparently there are special liscenses for cash bars....

Anyone?

Also....Cheap beer and wine? Where? What? Help!

We really don't want to have a dry wedding....but idk. it might end up that way.

    Costco?

I'll bet you could look for a bartender on CL, or Google bartending schools. They could probably help you out, too.

    Eek!

Cheap beer and wine:  Costco or Sam's Club.  I know Costco usually has a good beer selection.  If a Trader Joes is close to you, you could invest in some Three Buck Chuck.

Bartender:  We're "hiring" a family friend who used to work at the bar my parents used to own.  Do you have any friends of friends who are licensed to serve?

I've heard Seattle bartending academy is good.  A friend used them with great success. Yes, the license is different if you are charging for alcohol but I don't know what's involved exactly.

If you do end up going the Costco/Sam's Club route, or do kegs, I *think* all you need is a Banquet Permit since you aren't selling it.  We are getting one for our wedding and it's just 10 bucks at the liquor store.

If you do end up seling it then:
Adding to Mgoss' suggestion about a friend--I think it's fairly easy to get a MAST Permit.  I had one when I was watiressing in college, I think it was a four hour course and about 40 bucks, so if you have a friend that is willing to do that, it might be the way to go!  I'm not positive that's the license you are talking about, but it's worth looking into.

I know tons of friends and friends of friends who are bartenders....my MOH is a server at Applebees and has worked there over ten years........Sheesh, I even have my liquor license...

The prob is our venue requires that the bartender also holds liability insurance....which makes it trickier.

Also, and FYI, since this post, I also learned that it is illegal in WA to "sell" alcohol without the proper license.....which most bartenders won't have. I talked to a bartender who said that a way they have gotten around it, is to sell drink tickets next to the bar....but the bartender can't do it.

-----Is it a terrible idea to charge? ugh.....seems like such a hassle.....but our budget is really screwed b/c of TK.....

For our wine, we headed up to Woodinville and did some wine tasting.  Lots of wineries had deals, discounts, overstock, etc.  We pieced our wine together that way.
