Reception Venues

I am having a seriously difficult finding a venue that is reasonable and well kept. We have been to so many and they all are just not it and I am getting frustrated. Does anyone have ideas for reception places that have decent space for 150 people and good food? HELP
Thank Ladies!!! I really appreciate it!
I would like to be at about 10,000 for food, bar and rental. Its really hard to find. I like the Athletic Club a lot but my groom was not a fan. Smith Brothers was great when we looked at it but they were going to cut us huge on time so I said no. The museum was way to expensive for what they offered. I am just struggling because my groom is a chef and he is really particular on food and I am looking for a space with great charm and ambiance.

Have you picked up a copy of Columbus Brides?  It has a very comprehensive list of venues, and it gives you an idea of price range.

Your post is a little vague.  Everyone has a different idea of what is considered "reasonable" priced.  Also, what kind of style are you going for?  Do you need it to be near downtown or are you fine with it being in the suburbs?

Here's some of the places I've heard of being reasonably priced.  I don't know about size or anything.
    - Tall Timbers - I've actually been to two weddings here.
    - Loft or Venue at Smith Brothers
    - Clintonville Women's Club
    - Arlington Swin and Racquet Club

Also, if you live in Westerville, they have a beautiful Community Center.  Other places might as well, I just happened to go into that one.

Little turtle golf club in Westerville is perfect for 150 and has great food. I'm not sure what kind if pricing you are looking for, but you might want to check it out.

What is your budget for the reception? We can probably give you some better ideas once we know that. But here are a few below.

We are having ours at the OSU Faculty Club. Their drink prices are expensive, but they are on par with the middle to upper range venues and the food is priced fairly. Minimum on a Saturday is only $5k. Laynie is your coordinator and she LOVES what she does and is super accommodating. They have an in house executive chef and they do all the banquets for OSU faculty and althetic events.

Places I WOULD recommend looking into:

    1. The Westin. Super expensive on Saturdays (minimum is $15k), but Fridays are only $5k. The place is stunning and it's very elegant. I am not sure what their price per person would be but it could be worth looking into.

    2. Athletic Club- see comments above about Westin- same idea.

    3. Kelton House- the rental is only $1200 I think for a Saturday. You get to bring in your own alcohol and food. The only downside is that it might be too small for 150 people. You would need to look at it and decide

    4. Swim and Racquet Club- $500 rental. You bring in your own staff (through your caterer) and alcohol. Nice place!

    5. Brookshire- they have a lot of inclusive packages that come with centerpieces, flowers, cake, etc. I know a girl who is getting married there and paying $65/pp with open bar for 4 hours, dj, plus the other stuff listed above.

Places I would personally not recommend (my apologies to anyone that may have booked them, just giving my personal thoughts and I know everyone has different tastes):

    1. Franklin Park Conservatory- I wasn't crazy about the place for a wedding after I saw it (the humidity would kill me!), but their alcohol estimate for us with only 100 guests was $5k. You also have to use their preferred caterers as well and some of them are pricey.

2.Taylor Mansion- huge disappointment. They nickle and dime you on everything down to the last votive candle. You also have to use their catering only. The mansion itself can't hold all the people inside, they have a permanent tent set up on brick in the back where they put the space. Wasn't a fan of having my guests dance on brick or having to run through the rain to get inside to use the bathrooms if it happened to rain.

    3. North Bank Pavilion- if you have more than 100 people you HAVE to rent an outdoor tent (which you would really want to anyway in case the weather is lousy). Those suckers are pretty pricey.

Your budget would be helpful. We are getting married at the athenaneum and it is pretty decent for what I have seen else where, i like the swim and racquet club as well.

I don't think I realized you were getting married there! We are too! Are you doing both the ceremony and reception there?

Like the other brides said, more information would be helpful.

We are getting married and having our reception at Raymond Memorial Golf Club on Trabue Road.  The reception house is owned by Schmidt's, so you can bet the food is going to be delish!  The coordinator we are working with, Stef, is very very easy-going and one of the reasons we booked there!!  Their facility holds 200 guests and they were more reasonably priced (for us, anyways) than some of the other places we looked!

You can look at their information here: http://raymondreceptions.com/

We are having our ceremony at the Cultural Arts Center and then having our reception at Bluestone (formerly Boma). CAC holds 150 ppl and if you rent it for both ceremony and reception, its $1200. You are responsible for bringing in chairs/tables/catering but Geoff the coordinator there is really nice and they have a grand piano for you to use free of charge. We are using the outside patio space there for our ceremony which is a gorgeous brick with lots of flowers and sculptures surrounding it.

As for Bluestone, they are a little bit more pricey, but I think you get what you pay for. The Sat beverage/food minimum is $10,000 but you can put linens, bartender fees, etc in it to make the min. There is no room rental. It has a really cool sound system, as it used to be a bar/club but is now exclusively an event center.

If you want to see pictures of either of the two venues, feel free to PM me!

I'm getting married at the Capital Club.  It has exactly enough room for 150 people.  I really fell in love with the space and also - everything is inclusive.  You pick a package and you get candles, linens (and get to pick which colors you want, no upcharge) open bar, cake cutting, and choice of buffet or sitdown - again for a set price.  And Diana Holt is truly wonderful to work with.

    Best wishes!

We're having both the ceremony and reception at Heritage Golf Club in Hilliard.  I loved that at the time there weren't any minimums (although I think this may have changed for the 2011 policies) and I didn't have to worry about bringing in an outside caterer or anything like that.  The food is delicious and with all of the packages you get a cake from either The Cake Studio or Cake Creations and favors.  I live in Washington state and Jody, the catering director, has been so easy to work with that it's made planning a breeze.  Jody's also pretty much like the wedding planner so on the day of the wedding I won't need a day of coordinator since she'll be handling everything and getting everything in order.
The venue holds 250 people and the facility itself is gorgeous.  I personally think it's reasonably priced but then again, I don't know what you consider to be reasonable.  More info would help.

We just used the Jessing center for around 100 people but it holds up to 250 I believe.  They use Mass Appeal for catering and we got tons of compliments on the food.  You have the building for the whole day and you are the only event there.  You can bring your own alcohol so that helps with the budget like a few other places mentioned.

At the Royal American Links Golf Course in Galena you would be looking at around less than $10,000 total for room rental, catering @ $26/pp and 4 hour beer and wine open bar for 150 guests assuming they are all adults, if there are children under 12 it will be a bit cheaper because they do offer kids meals at a lower price with a drink package for the kids. I am doing my wedding there in about 3 weeks and we are coming in at just under $13000 for 230 guests with about 48 of those guests being children under 12. I don't know what your definition of reasonable is but my mom and I thought that this place was reasonably priced, plus it is absolutley gorgeous both inside and out.

We are having our ceremony and reception a the Grand Valley Dale Ballroom.  The rental fee is only $1700, and their drink packages are pretty reasonable (I don't remember off the top of my head the exact price)--plus the space is be-a-u-tiful!  We are using their preferred caterer as well, and I feel like we are getting a lot for our money!

I second Royal American Links!  We had just under 150 people and came definitely under $10,000 and that was including rental for the ceremony as well.  Extremely affordable and beautiful venue and they are great to work with for whatever you want!  Let me know if you have any questions at all about the venue.  We loved it!
