Your wedding style

Hi Knotties,

We want to know: How did you "know" your wedding style? What inspired it? This could be as simple as a favorite color, lace from a dress, a wallpaper pattern or a movie. We want to hear it!

Let us know by replying to this post and you could be featured in the next issue of The Knot magazine.

Thanks!

I guess I think of it more as a "personal style" than a "wedding style."  I'm a simple person who likes simple pretty things, no frills, and nothing fussy.   My fiance (surprisingly enough) is the same way.   So when we started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted something simple, classic, and pretty, and that we didn't want to stress out over fussy little details.

  • I have known for a long time I wanted a formal wedding, but beyond that I didn't know where to start.  I really struggled coming up with my "wedding style" until one of my bridesmaids sent me a link to a stylemepretty.com wedding.  The entire event was inspired by the sunset and it was absolutely gorgeous.  Right then I just knew that was what I wanted my wedding to be all about.  Luckily, my fiance is onboard and is letting my make most of the style decisions.

Unknowingly, I actually tried on the dress the bride from my inspiration wedding wore on her big day, but ended up choosing a different one.  Having the same wedding dress might have been a little too similar!

  • Summer and sunflowers epitomize happiness and fun for me. That was where we started and it has led us to a floral, elegantly rustic winery wedding. I can't wait to see everything come together!

  • I started with a formal garden theme and ran with it...purple wildflowers, toporary trees, glass latern for the card box. Things just fell into place.

A swinging 20s theme came about after I talked to all my friends and realized I could have a wedding or a blast from the past party.

I walked into our venue and just had that vision of the candelabras laced with roses, prohibition signs across the room and everyone having a great time partying like...well, a party.

Some of the weddings I went to had more "video hoes" than party people. That irritated me and I figured that people could have fun without all the other crap.

I love that happy party feeling and giving people a great party that they can look forward to. Our swinging 20s theme is the best idea I think I've had...

  •  We were married in December & one of my friends was married the January prior.  Her gown was like the one I wanted & her colors were the same as I had planned to use.  After that, I didn't want to "copy" her & I just wanted to get married. I had only a few things that I wanted at that point, then had my DH & my mother choose the things they liked.

We started with the invitations that DH chose.  They were white, with a black sillouette of the bridal couple.  We decided on the wedding colors of black & white with red accents.  We found plates, cups, napkins, balloons, toasting glasses, invitation seals, & our cake topper in sillouettes.  There were red roses everywhere: bridesmaids bouquets, front of wedding program, on the wedding cake.

We did "traditional with a twist":

Our dress, flower choice, & most of the song choices were traditional, but DH had a band to play during the church wedding.   My mother is still shocked 18 years later! We had taped music played before the ceremony. We had the traditional candelabras, but the church was decorated for Christmas (12/18 wedding), so that was a bit different for the time.  The wedding cake was three layers and round, but it had small candles on the cake, which was an eye-turner for my mother as well!. I did "old, new, borrowed, & blue", but we saw each other before the ceremony & made all pictures beforehand.

We are boring people for the most part, but we do like to shake things up occasionally!
  • I was watching The Princess Bride with my fiance when it kind of came together.  I love playing the princess role and we're both more traditional than modern, but we love goofing off.  Medieval with a touch of fun is what we're going for and I cannot wait!
