wedding hair

Trying to figure out what to do w my hair for the wedding. I have pretty long hair. I have to wear it down because if I don't my mom will make me cover up my very discreet, small tattoo between my shoulder blades with makeup and i dont want to do that. That was the trade off. My hair doent hold a curl. Its very fine, but looks thick because I have a lot of it. And its layered it goes about halfway down my back.

What I want to know is what can I do besides straightening it which makes it silky but also just makes it look thin. Or are there any products that will keep my hair or at the very least my ends curled. I had a trial run with all over big curls. It was hair sprayed and everything and I swear to god, curls didnt last an hour.

I think that bigger curls were a mistake with thinner hair.. Im a hairstylist and with the right size curling iron & products, you should have no problem with your hair staying... You could do something half up half down to give it a different look them being all down.... And p.s. I wouldnt let my mother decide on my hair or my tattoo being shown...its your day and you do what you want and show off what you have!
  • could you do a sort of half up/half down braided look?

this is just a quick example: http://blondesearch.ru/img/05/059/Romantic_half_up_half_down_hairstyles_for_medium_long_hair_with_braids_Cute_boho_chic_tutorial.jpg

basically it would just add a bit of texture and interest to your hair. search google or pinterest for braided wedding hair ideas.
  • My SIL did my hair like this using hot rollers:

It held up pretty well, but not the whole night.

How were the curls done? My hair is very similar to what you have described (long, fine, hard to curl), and the easiest way for me to get curls that last all day is to set them while wet by sleeping in rollers. The best way to get curls done by a curling iron to hold is to pin your curls until they cool.

FWIW, I think you should wear your hair up if you want to. There's no reason for you to cover your tattoo if you don't want to; you should look like yourself on your wedding day.

  • i love the idea that gymbug posted! cute way of dressing it up without having to worry about the curl falling out. Sometimes if you pin each  curl and let it set and cool off they will last longer, but with what you're describing that your hair does, I'm not sure if that'll help enough. Maybe do a combo, the half up braid and curl the ends, that was if the curls fall it will still look pretty! Adding a head piece can dress it  up too. either way, im sure you'll look gorgeous!

Your hair can hold a curl if it is the correct products are used, wieght of the hair is a factor but what will help you is to take a shower the night before and put mousse or gel in your hair, then when you go to the stylist they will be able to keep your hair curled with just some hairspray, another option is to wet your hair and apply the mousse or gel and then use velcro rollers in the hair until it is dry, sleep on it overnight and then in the morning or afternoon use a blowdryer to lock in the curls. When dealing with longer hair hairspray alone will not work because the weight of the hair will just make the curls come loose so you have to have a base to work with which is where the mousse or gel comes into play! Good luck!!!
